How does this registering work.. why would you take the trouble to register and then not vote
(we don't register here, we just get a voting card by mail a few weeks in advance and then o day t self take that to our polling station)

You can register by post, but unless you choose a postal vote (and most people don't for some weird reason) then to vote you actually have to get off your lazy arse and go to your local polling station :)
Some people just can't be bothered when they realise that on the day...
