I agree with you there, with one caveat. If you take naked photos of yourself and they get stolen and plastered all over the internet, I'm totally blaming you for making my eyes bleed.

It's not against the law to take a photo of yourself naked if you're under 16 though, is there?

That's pretty shocking that for £250 you can get a tool that does that.

I remember looking at this tool a few years ago. At the time you had to email the company and demonstrate you were law enforcement etc before they would sell it to you. Now anyone with £1500 can buy it.

The most shocking thing for me is how poor the security of the system is, not that you can buy a tool for so cheap to do it. I expect there are opensource versions out there that may not be as swish, but can do the job.

If you have two factor authentication switched on, it just shouldn't be possible to access any information on your account at all, with just an email and password. That's kinda the point! :D
This should be a serious issue for Apple to respond to, but unfortunately it's likely to be too techy for the average person, so won't get the attention it deserves, I expect.

As a complete aside, Mrs C would, I am sure, think I'd taken complete leave of my senses if I photographed myself naked and posted such pictures anywhere, private or public, and least of all for her personal delectation/review.

Must be an age thing.

That tool can do the same thing for Blackberry and OneDrive as well although I don't this the author tried those.

At work I've not been involved with the projects we have globally to look at moving data to the cloud, they have been pissing around with it for 2 years, I can sort of see why if they keep finding holes like this.

Not if you have two factor turned on though

I just turned that on for my OneDrive as all Apple pictures get sent there, I don't use anything from Apple as OneDrive is cheaper and in some ways better to share pictures with.

So now on every device I log in and am asked to get a code from an app MS told me to install on my IPhone which is made by Google?!

Its all good, but I have an issue straight away as my wife uses the same account to send her pictures up there, so I think I will need to scan a QR code from within my OneDrive settings page using her phone so that she can get access codes.

You can see why people don't bother as for many this would be either too complex or take too long.

EDIT: You to enter the same code for Skype as well after enabling this but only once by the looks of things

20 years ago my mum worked at truprint and she would regularly talk about developing people's naked pics. I don't think it's an age thing so much, it's just easier/cheaper to do these days.

I got told off in a busy Boots when I was 18 and picking up my pictures from a holiday with my mates. The manager told me that "they don't appreciate this kind of filth" in their shop and that they they had young ladies working there.

2 step verification now enabled on icloud backups and on other stuff for the start of next month

Quote:
Dear ZZZZZZ,

Thank you for using two-step verification to protect your Apple ID. This email provides information about recent updates to your service.
Two-step verification now protects iCloud
Starting today, in addition to protecting your Apple ID account information, two-step verification also protects all of the data you store and keep up to date with iCloud. For more information, read the Two-Step Verification FAQ.
Sign in securely with app-specific passwords
If you use iCloud with any third party apps such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird or BusyCal, you can now create app-specific passwords that let you sign in securely even if the app you are using does not support two-step verification.
To generate an app-specific password:

Sign in to My Apple ID (https://appleid.apple.com)
Go to Password & Security
Click Generate App-Specific Password

App-specific passwords will be required starting on 1 October 2014.
For complete instructions and answers to common questions, read Using App‑Specific Passwords. If you need additional help, visit Apple Support.
Sincerely,
Apple Support

Will this stop all access to backups using that "forensic" tool?

Found the OneDrive two-step verification to be OK, except the other day when I logged into a 2nd OneDrive account I have to check something.

Doing this kicked me out of my primary account on OneDrive, Skype and Xbox on 2 Iphone, 3 Ipads and the XboxOne so had to enter all the two-step verification again

It'll stop being able to access the backup without an authorised device, so for the celeb hacking situation, that's as good as a yes :)
The forensic tool will still be able to rip the contents of a backup if you have access to a backup file though.

Happened again!

I'm assuming this isn't a new "hack" and is just the leaking of more pictures already obtained?

The original posts had a list of 100 people who they had info on , they only released a very small amount of that the first time round this looks to just be another group of images / videos taken at the same time.
