It was amusing that all the fuss over it being a 'hard R! Wow, much adult' gets a 15 here

Post subject:  Re: Deadpool

Considering the content (including (very brief) full-frontal lady-nudity) I think it must have been borderline 15/18.

Post subject:  Re: Deadpool

I'd have been very tempted to give it an 18 but I guess it gets away with 15 by being 'comedic' in tone. But considering there is lots of indiscriminate stabbing with swords, plenty of foul language and considerable sex and nudity I'd have thought 18 would be more appropriate. Or maybe I'm soft.

Anyway I thought the film did what was supposed to do very well. I enjoyed it quite a lot. Could have done with less leaden back story stuff though.

The writers have been open that they were basically given a list of X-men characters Fox has the rights to... and chose Negasonic Teenage Warhead because she's called Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Her role was originally going to be Cannonball, but Cannonball is a very silly character, and the writers felt that the X-men characters should be (reasonably) straight men to 'Pool. That's why she has Cannonball's powers.

Saw the film earlier. Place was packed! Got to the box office before 1pm, had to wait until the 3:40pm showing to get two of the remaining seats.

I enjoyed the film, quite a bit more than I thought I would actually. Would've passed it by without seeing the universally positive response online. Never experienced a packed cinema ringing with so much laughter before.

However, my girlfriend made me apologise to her immediately afterwards for taking her to see the film. :(

That's not strictly true. It had one negative review, one positive review, and at least one other endorsement on the site, along with about fifty other fluff pieces, so it's fair to say that one reviewer didn't like it.

It's nice to see there's a bit of pent-up demand for a proper 'R' rated superhero film rather than the anodyne, neutered PG-13 pap that often gets foisted on the public.

(Although interestingly(ish) the American 'R' very often equates to a 15 over here these days (even 'hard R' films), whereas in the past 'R' rated films would be cut even for a Cert 18 over here (and even more often at 15), mainly thanks to James Ferman who fortunately retired and then died. I routinely imported my DVDs from the States back in the 90s thanks to him, often at considerable cost.)

Been seeing a lot of Deadpool merch in the shops. Hearing all this positivity makes me want to go see it, even though I didn't really like Ryan Reynolds in the wolverine film (whichever one it was, Origins I think). I'm struggling to think I what else he has been in, all I can remember at the moment are films I didn't like. Blade 3 (pony film, annoying character). Oh, and the one where he got married to Sandra Bullock (annoying film, couldn't sit through it). I'll have to look on IMDB or something. And yet, I dint dislike Reynolds himself, I think he's kinda... OK.

If you want to see it why don't you just go and see it, rather than agonising over the main actor's career? It's only a couple of hours, you're not making a lifetime commitment here.

Don't think so! She told me she found the jokes too "crude" apparently. And didn't like being in a room full of British people bellowing with laughter. She wasn't angry per se or anything, just "why did I have to watch this".

I liked the film. A 15-rated comic book film that isn't dark/serious! Who wouldn't want that? Hopefully its success will encourage studios to not just endlessly churn out homogenous 12A superhero films.

You have misread how the violence is used in Deadpool as well as its appeal. I think it's doing well because of the character's innate appeal at this point in time and because of the saturation (and very clever) marketing, not because people are desperate for violence that isn't particularly in the film anyway. There's some gore but nothing inherently more nasty than the Joker with his pencil in The Dark Knight.

Deadpool is a 15. I suspect it is rated R in the States more for sex and nudity than violence, which the US market is famously squeamish about.

I think there are a lot of kids that disagree with you. The avengers and that ilk, are great, I don't think a Ironman film with a 15 rating would work.

That's a slightly odd reaction. Was it the room, the British people, the laughter or the combination of all three she was reacting to? And holding you personally responsible because she didn't like a particular film seems harsh!

Not that any of this matters like, I'm just bored at work.

Combination of the three. And seeing a film she didn't enjoy or laugh at.

Edit: she generally doesn't like "meta" humour or references either, so not really her sort of film.
