This might not actually be that meaningful given the usual machinations of Hollywood but it's certainly not a bad sign:

Before offering an opinion on how funny the film is, can Bamba confirm whether he thinks Airplane! is the most hilarious movie ever made. Y'know, just so I can gauge whether our sense of humours are aligned.

It's.....

Pretty damn amazing. I'm going to have to watch it again because of the 'holy crap I just missed what he just said because I was laughing at the last thing he said' thing.

ETA: it's full on Deadpool. No half measures. It's messy, self-referential, down right dirty. And I enjoyed the shit out of it.

Whenever you want to.

Just add spoiler tags for the moment, just in case silly people are reading this thread looking for non-spoiler impressions of the film.

If you use spoiler tags then 'whenever you want'. Otherwise 'never, because some twat will always whine at you about it'.

He said that he went through a similar process to Deadpool, and it gave him different powers, like super strength and incredible reflexes, etc, but not healing.

You know what I liked about it?

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
It was small. One (crazy/hilarious/awesome) guy's quest for revenge. No 'the world is in danger, we must defeat this army of Mooks while flying around with long tracking shots' that the big MCU seem to rely on as their climaxes.

Also...
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
It was pretty accurate to the comics. They got Deadpool, Weasel and Blind Al spot on. And Bob! I liked the X-men back-up squad. Negasonic Teenage Warhead is a great foil for Deadpool's aggressive stupidity, meanwhile Piotr as a big metal bumbling boy scout? Great. Ajax is probably better than he is in the comics. Angel Dust is completely different, but who the fuck knows who she is in the comics?

Bad things: some (not much but some) slightly ropey CG work. Having 'Shoop' by Salt and Pepper stuck in my brain, and it won't come out.

In Conclusion: Deadpool: you'll never see Crocs in the same way.

12 bullets out of ten.

I agree that the scale of it was a good match for the character, and also for a film that's first and foremost a comedy. That's a really weird springboard to use though to espouse a really weird opinion about the other Marvel films. I mean if you want to watch an Avengers film where the world isn't in danger at all and the whole team hunts down, I dunno, a burglar or something then, well, you're mad. The reason these films address massive world-ending threats is because the team has massive world-saving powers and stuff needs to be proportional otherwise the plot's a complete nonsense right from the start.

Negasonic Teenage Warhead is also completely different from her comics character but, as with some of the others, I agree that it doesn't matter at all. Though it does beg the question why they bothered even picking existing characters when they could've just invented new ones for all the difference it made.

Weasel, Blind Al, Ajax and Angel Dust I didn't recognise at all and am only realising from your comments they were even comics characters. I wonder if they haven't really appeared since I started reading comics, or if my memory is just a lot worse than I realise.

Random amusing thing I noticed and have only just remembered:

It was amusing that all the fuss over it being a 'hard R! Wow, much adult' gets a 15 here

Considering the content (including (very brief) full-frontal lady-nudity) I think it must have been borderline 15/18.

I'd have been very tempted to give it an 18 but I guess it gets away with 15 by being 'comedic' in tone. But considering there is lots of indiscriminate stabbing with swords, plenty of foul language and considerable sex and nudity I'd have thought 18 would be more appropriate. Or maybe I'm soft.

Anyway I thought the film did what was supposed to do very well. I enjoyed it quite a lot. Could have done with less leaden back story stuff though.

The writers have been open that they were basically given a list of X-men characters Fox has the rights to... and chose Negasonic Teenage Warhead because she's called Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Her role was originally going to be Cannonball, but Cannonball is a very silly character, and the writers felt that the X-men characters should be (reasonably) straight men to 'Pool. That's why she has Cannonball's powers.
