The headline is wrong. We're out of the depression now, with GDP (total) today the same as it was the day it went wrong. However, that is gross GDP, not GDP per capita, and with population increase we're still 5% down per head. I think the GDP figure in this context is actually inflation adjusted. Next year, however, when the GDP basis of calculation changes, then what happened today actually happened this time last year. All clear? Good. |

If things are improving, it'll take a while for the boom to work its way through the economic system and we start to feel better. Whether this is timed for May 2015 or not is another matter. |
