I always thought that 500 miles was justified as a concept.

Its the missing song afterwards when he has to walk 500 miles back having got his end away and being bloody shattered that I don't think should be disregarded.

Somehow, and I believe more by chance than by skill, I have avoided a full-blown mental breakdown today.

Through, frankly, other peoples' incompetance, I have experienced what has been probably the worst handling of a situation that I have ever encountered. Without boring you, someone has probably made about every mistake possible between monday and Wednesday, gone on holiday and the result of all those problems hit us yesterday and today.

I did snap a little when someone tried to bare-faced lie to me, though only by telling them that no, that wasn't tre, but how I have not stormed around the office with a chainsaw and lopped off heads I do not know.

And I have just found out that, somehow, I have fixed all those problems. Problems so big that nobody thought we could find a solution without massive costs costing thousands. And, somehow, I've done it without us losing a penny.

And who is here to congratulate or than me? Nobody. Just me.

Well, well done me.

I actually want to go and have a little cry, but I refuse to give anyone the enjoyment of that sight. I'll do it when I get home.

He's not walking to see her, he's walking just to be the man who would perform teh crazy act of walking 1000 miles to her door. He clearly lives next door to her, walks 500 miles away then 500 miles back. It's a round trip.

I'm sure if she was sensible she'd turn him away as he'd clearly mental.

I think that's like saying, why have taps been rebranded faucets, why have pavements been rebranded sidewalks and why have they rebranded lifts to elevators.

What I am saying is that in America they call Motor Neurone Disease ALS.

Sometimes it's very hard not to laugh at your children.

I popped out to the shops earlier, and on the way out starting doing the "manamana" thing from the Muppets. The kids asked what it was, and I explained it was a song from a TV show when I was a kid, and that it had stuck in my head since then. they asked to see it, so whilst I was out Ruth showed them the video on Youtube, which they hugely enjoyed. Fast forward a few hours, and Second Born can't sleep and is in fits of tears because "that song's a brainworm and it will be there forever and I can't sleep and I wish I'd never watched it".

Tomorrow I'll leekspin him.

My wife and I were driving back from from lunch yesterday when we saw a rather plump girl strolling along the pavement in an inappropriately short and tight pair of denim shorts, with black tights beneath. I resisted the temptation to make a comment, but my wife didn't.

"Would you?" she said.

What went through my head was, "she's not my type," but I knew what she really meant was, "would you wear those shorts if you were built like that?"

Maybe you had to be there.

I need to buy an HDMI cable and I know there are a few versions of the HDMI standard these days but is it safe to assume all the cables are compatible? So, like, I don't need to look for a cable that specifically supports HDMI v2 or anything do I?

There was a young girl at my workplace, about 18-20 years old perhaps, full-figured, who was taken into a room by the head of her department to be given a warning about her clothes not being appropriate for the office (we have no enforced dress code). This upset her quite a bit. She is young, shy, and quirky. Her skirts often sit above the knee, as is her preferred style. She usually wears thick dark tights with her skirts, which I would not say are overly short.

Far shorter skirts are worn in the same department, by women of all ages. On the day this happened and she confided in me (I was working in the same department at the time) one of the managers was wearing a skirt a good six inches shorter, but she was slimmer than the girl given the warning. The only difference between this girl and many of the other women in the department was not the length of her skirt but her figure. It made me feel so sad to see how much this had upset and worried her. She enjoyed her clothes and had never thought herself to be inappropriately dressed. I was envious of her confidence in her style and clothes, and to see it taken away like that was horrid.

I don't know what part of the inappropriateness of this girls' shorts was due to her figure, but I am glad at least that the comments were kept said only to you, and not shouted down the street, or out of the car window, as often happens.

People, women in particular, are under such pressure to look a particular way because the media tells us that if Scarlett Johanssen has even the slightest shadow of cellulite that she must be a hideous hag, that many of us just can't feel that we are allowed to dress without judgement. I hope that those people who still feel free and confident enough to wear what they enjoy don't have that taken away from them by people like that head of department at my work place.

I just assume anyone calling the land line is a cold caller because I historically don't even bother giving out my landline number as I don't use it. Although I might need to give it to my mum and sister (the only people I really talk on the phone with these days) because my flat is a total reception black spot; I'm relying on a Three app that uses my broadband to even receive and send text message while in the house. The same app will handle phone calls as well but the volume and sound quality is so horrible I'd rather avoid that.

The very cheapest no-name cables aren't capable of the higher bit rates for stuff like HDMI 1.4. So don't buy them from the pound shop. Anything with any sort of brand will probably be fine. They are usually labelled for a HDMI spec level, so look for that.

The shorts really were far too short and far too tight for her build, but neither my wife nor I would ever dream of making a comment if there was even he remotest possibility that the wearer could hear. The point of this story was really about my wife asking me, "would you?" which, had we been in a bar, for example, would have had me choking on my drink. It's not the question she would ever ask me, in fact I don't think she realised how inappropriate it was.

Lave's Avatar sold for 1.9 million squids

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-28936096

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Superman debut comic sells for a record $3.2m

One of the best-preserved copies of the first Superman comic has sold for $3.2m (£1.9m), a record price for a comic book, according to eBay.

Superman made his debut in Action Comics #1, which cost 10 cents in 1938.

Only around 50 unrestored originals are thought to have survived, and this was described as the most immaculate.

New York dealers Metropolis Comics said they bought it. It beat the previous record of $2.16m (£1.4m) set by another copy of the same comic in 2011.

The latest copy to be sold was given a nine out of 10 rating for its condition and has white pages, according to independent comic book grader Certified Guaranty Company.

It had been kept in a cedar chest in a home in West Virginia after being bought in 1938, according to seller Darren Adams.

After the owner's death, the family sold it to a dealer in the early 1980s and it was eventually sold to Mr Adams, who runs the Pristine Comics shop in Washington state.

Stephen Fishler of Metropolis Comics told the Associated Press the opportunity was "just too good of an opportunity to pass up".
New era

He said: "It's hard to believe that a kid's 10 cent comic could be worth that much money, but it is Superman.

"That's an iconic thing. It's the first time anybody saw what a superhero was like."

The edition sold in 2011 was also rated nine out of 10 but its pages were faded.

One percent of the proceeds of the latest sale will go to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, the paralysis charity named after the late Superman actor and his wife.

The superhero was created by Cleveland writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster. Around 200,000 copies of the first Action Comics were printed.

Siegel and Shuster sold the rights to Superman for just $130 to Detective Comics in 1938, although the pair battled for more royalties after the character became a global phenomenon.

I saw a brilliantly ambiguous sign on a train at the weekend. Wish I'd got a photo of it. It read something like:

Smoking is prohibited on this train. If you observe someone smoking, a complaint may be made to the train guard

Man alive,

I think time has actually come to a standstill in teh office today. Through bad luck, bad judgement and just....bad... Chloe and I are the only two people in out of a team of 11. You can imagine how complex teh handvers have been - except we haven't had a handover froma single person. Nobody has put their out of office on, either. I can only assume thatthere is no work to do. If there is then we certainly have no knowledge of it...

Talking of quality handovers; some folk in my team were essentially made redundant a couple of months back but, crucially, they're been at their desks almost the entire time since then. One of the guys in question was, amongst other things, in charge of the build and deployment process for the entire client side of our system. Today is the first official integrated system build into our system test environment since the redundancies. Not only is no one even attempting to co-ordinate the client side build but, on raising this to the team, it turns out none of them really know either how to fucking do it or what the list of impacted components actually is. :belm: This team is a fucking shambles.

Took child to beach to introduce her to the sea. Beach was red flagged and covered in foam. Cafe was shut so MrsA couldn't have a hedgehog for breakfast. Shopping to do, then I think I will have a beer or summat.

Talking of quality handovers; some folk in my team were essentially made redundant a couple of months back but, crucially, they're been at their desks almost the entire time since then. One of the guys in question was, amongst other things, in charge of the build and deployment process for the entire client side of our system. Welcome to every programming job I've had. No one even seems to care, far less try to do something about it.

I am currently seriously considering a complete change of career.
