99% sure I know this. In the theoretical circumstance that I returned home from Canada and discovered a ps4 in my luggage, I can either swap a uk plug cable onto the power pack (I assume there's a power pack with standard flex) or just run it through a travel adaptor when I'm home. Right?

Think so. It's just a standard connector.

Just check that its ok with UK voltage on the bottom.

On the other hand, my ps4 seemingly doesn't support US voltage, so the reverse may be true and you'd need extra gubbins

Oh, and there's no external power pack.

It'll be a mini IEC lead (figure of 8 rather than kettle). I probably have one if you want me to send it to you?

Basically yes - switchable power supply that runs off a figure of 8 lead but it does not have a power pack its all built into the unit

(If you did the same with the Xbox One you would need an adapter to go with the power brick for it - Lewie has posted offers in the past about cheap PS4's / Xbox One's from Amazon.com and you just needed to swap out the figure of 8 lead for the PS4 but needed a plug adapter for the Xbox)

Someone called Barry Scott emailed us today, Chloe noticed. None of us had seen the email apart from her, so as we often have random supplier emails there were lots of 'HI, I'M BARRY SCOTT!' announcements loud to the room. After about 15 minutes of such joviality (really stressful day, I think we were all mid-breakdown), she suddenly started shushing everyone. It's the new Lous Theroux lookalike that sits behind us. About 4, maybe 5 feet away.

Quote:
BBC's Genome Project offers radio and TV archive listings

the BBC has launched a test version of an online searchable catalogue of its TV and radio programme broadcasts.

The Genome Project is based on scans of Radio Times magazine listings published between 1923 and 2009. Searches bring up a synopsis, a cast list and an edit button.

It is designed to help the BBC identify programmes missing from its recorded archive and try to find copies of them.

A total of 4,423,654 programmes are included, from 4,469 issues.

The scheme was given its name because the corporation likens each of it programmes to "tiny pieces of BBC DNA" that will form a "data spine" once reassembled.
Genome Project A search tool allows the public to search through old issues of the Radio Times' listings

Most of the BBC's early output was not recorded, and later many shows were destroyed or wiped over.

The hope is that the project will lead to programmes being recovered if the public realises they have audio or video recordings of their own.

Specific shows can be searched for, alternatively visitors can browse the issue archive by year, providing a way to see old Radio Times covers.

The archivists said they expected searches for old Doctor Who episodes to prove particularly popular.

"Genome is the closest we currently have to a comprehensive broadcast history of the BBC," said Hilary Bishop, editor of archive development at the BBC.

"It is highly likely that somewhere out there, in lofts, sheds and basements across the world, many of these 'missing' programmes will have been recorded and kept by generations of TV and radio fans.

"So, we're hoping to use Genome as a way of bringing copies of those lost programmes back in to the BBC archives too."

The next step is to cross reference the Genome Project with the corporation's other records.
Genome Project Archivists expect searches for Doctor Who to be popular, but some old episodes have incomplete listings

At this point, however, there are no details on the search results about whether a programme is missing.
Catalogue errors

Ultimately, the intention is that Genome will also provide photos, scripts and other materials held by the BBC.

For now, it allows the BBC's own staff to download a PDF of the relevant Radio Times magazine, however this facility is not currently available to others.

However, the archivists involved acknowledge that the project does not currently take account of changes to the scheduled broadcast - including coverage of the assassination, in 1963, of President John F Kennedy - and recognise other limitations with the current database.

"We know the data contains errors and we're asking for your help to find and fix them," said Andy Armstrong, an engineer involved in the project.

"We know, for example, that some programmes are currently showing up on the wrong days due to OCR [optical character recognition] errors on the dates.

"We also have work to do to make the site even more accessible to screen readers and other assistive technologies.

"And smartphone users may notice certain challenges with the current version of the site - it's better in landscape than in portrait. Sorry. It's on the list. We're working on it."
Radio Times The Genome Project can be used to see some of the old Radio Times covers

The team added it also planned to add regional shows not yet included.

The BBC has not said how much the project has cost, although a spokesman said that "any decisions were made with value for money for audiences at its core".

Link is of course hit and miss at the moment if you can get it to search but http://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/

In that case, thank you Myp for giving me extra chocolate mushroom truffles in that paper cone you fashioned out of a napkin so I could take them home for my daughter. FYI, she didn't like them at all. But it's the thought that counts.

OS X Yosemite, then. That new look is going to take some getting used to.

As for performance, I installed it on my mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM and 2,26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, and it runs at least as well as Mavericks did.

Really to sorry hear you are poorly, TheVision. Sorry you didn't have a massive round of birthday wishes yesterday, either - there's not much of a signal up at the cottage. If you'll insist on having a birthday at this time of you you shall have to come to the cottage yourself so that we can properly communicate the required and necessary birthday wishes.

I hope that the Family Vision are all feeling less poorly and more chipper today and that you get to celebrate with a little more verve, even if a little delayed x x x

Lol. I've just tried to play the demo for some random XBLA game called Anna which I know very little about. On starting, aside from looking like a PS2 game, the demo is bugged such that your character is always walking backwards. He'll move in any other direction if you move the stick, but as soon as you release it you're endlessly plodding backwards again. How the fuck do people release stuff so shit? It's mind boggling.

It didn't do anything like that in the demo I played beforehand or the game I'm playing now so I assume the controller isn't to blame.

I thought I might make a loaf of fresh bread, so after a quick search found myself on Delia Smith's website.

I navigate myself to the 'bread' section (so far so good) and am lead to this

But Delia is wrong when it comes to toast. A toast rack dries the toast out way too much, it's like eating concentrated dust. You need a bit of steam from putting it on a plate to make it a little softer.

That's why God invented butter.

I like to leave mine in the toaster for a minute to keep warm and rid some steam, then butter/whatever. But everyone likes their toast differently and that's only one of the reasons you do not need a recipe.

I've always used bad bread. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong?

The bread my parents used to buy when we were kids was awful. Really thin white bread with chewy, sometimes black crusts.

I agree with the butter, but with delia method you end up with cardboard smeared in unmelted butter.

Toast should be reasonably soggy, with a pool of melted butter running off the sides when you pick it up ;)
