Quite a few posts about this over the last day or two , lots of images from a trailer that has not leaked yet but given its a game by From Software and created by Miyazaki I think there will be some interest in it here Rumors are that its PS4 only (but who knows) http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/20 ... ark-souls/ Quote: 'Project Beast' Screenshots Leaked: Possible PS4 Exclusive From Makers Of 'Dark Souls' Images of a game with the working title Project Beast have surfaced online. (See the below gallery.) Developed by From Software, the maker of Dark Souls and the broader Souls franchise, the game appears to have a very similar dark, almost Gothic, aesthetic as the previous games, with a few noticeable changes. First off, the time period appears to be different, with what could be either shotguns or blunderbusses alongside cutlasses and other more traditional melee arsenal. The time period looks like it could be set in the same time period as the Solomon Kane stories—late 16th, early 17th century. Plumed hats and the like. It also looks to be more focused on horror elements, rather than medieval fantasy. Beyond that, there appear to be fog gates, massive hounds, and mobs of torch-wielding zombies. It would be very surprising if the images were faked, and I’m fairly confident what we’re looking at here is the real deal, From Software’s first next-gen title. When Dark Souls II was announced we learned that Souls creator and director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, would not be leading the project. It was rumored that he was working on another project. There’s no telling if Project Beast is that project at this point, but it wouldn’t be surprising. The game is also apparently being developed in conjunction with Sony's Japan Studio. That was the case with Demon’s Souls, the PS3 exclusive that kicked off the Souls franchise in 2009. If true, this would make Project Beast a PlayStation exclusive, and specifically a PS4 exclusive. If true, this is some of the best video game news I’ve come across in a long time. A new Souls game in a totally different time period with an even darker, more horror-inspired theme? Count me in. http://blogs-images.forbes.com/erikkain ... t-logo.png 9 images in the slideshow here : http://www.forbes.com/pictures/egjd45fi ... t-beast-4/ |

If Miyazaki is at the helm, I'm interested to see what else he can do. He's struck gold twice; maybe three times the charm. |

Apparently I'm going to EGX next week, on 25 & 26 September 2014. Where I shall be playing Bloodborne and other stuff. Hopefully some CoD Advanced Willy-waving too. Apparently Team 17 (remember them, have got a load of new games on show. Fack knows if the original Team 17 guys will be there. I'm going to walk around looking for childish whining hatemongers. Mind you I supposed I'll be utterly surrounded by them at a gamers convention. Oh, and Cosplay gals. Yummy. Did I mention about that woman who dressed up as one of the Batman characters when I went last year? Harley Quinn I think? Like the Joker or some-such? Man alive, she was bostin' out. Oh course she had to go on stage as well and do the wiggly movements in that Octodad game that was fresh out. Soddin' male conspiracy it was. Hang on, Ill have a look for it... Hang about, this is probably it. 28 September 2013 in London. That's gotta be it. ***WARNING: CONTAINS COSPLAY*** Links working fine for me. That's her, no doubt about it. I'd recognise those...shoes, anywhere. |

And if you're fed up with mild titillation and want to know what games you can play ahead of everyone else then you can click this very long link to the EXG website and scroll down a very long list of games that are confirmed as being the sort of thing that you can play before all the other scumbags get on the internet and start moaning about it. Actually, I'm definitely going to play Alien: Isolation and then write a massive piece about how scary it isn't. Even if it is. Y'know, just for balance. |

That looks terrific. Like a next-gen Dark Souls, which is exactly what I wanted Dark Souls 2 to be but this will do nicely by the looks of it. And in the February-lull for releases too, which 'll be nice. |

Saturnalian did you get a chance to play this at that event thingy you went to ? A very quick play around with the alpha tonight and its very souls-esque , shotty seems to be for stuns , there are situations where you get swamped with enemies (5 or 6 all around you at the same time) and big bosses still one hit kill you :-) A few hours to play on Friday and then again on Sunday night but first impressions are good |

Been twice now and it's been aces and there's been a really good crowd of gamers. Shame that it's in London really (cause London stinks, init) (also, someone was stabbed outside our hotel on the first night) (Yay London!) but I see that it's in Birmingham NEC next September. I might be wrong but I reckon the tickets were a silly price, like, a tenner or something. Anyhoo, yeah I queued to play Bloodborne (and got chatting to a fellow Dark Souls enthusiast as well. I almost took a pic for "Is it Dimrill" but he was a really nice chap and we stood talking for about 40 minutes about games while we waited. Interestingly, he pointed me in the direction of LORDS OF THE FALLEN which, he said, was very much like Dark Souls but without the brutal checkpoint/bonfires. And, y'know what, he was right! It was pretty ace from what I played of it. What? Bloodborne? Yeah, it was very snazzy. You had one life and then you got booted off to queue again. I couldn't find the block button (probably because I don't think there was one) and I was very quickly mauled. Actually I had a right Dark Souls moment where I was too sodding focused on two people in front of me and then smashing them up that I forgot about what was behind me; which turned out to be just one guy, but he pounded me real good. I didn't play enough to get a good feel for it but it seemed very much like Dark Souls+. I got the alpha invite so I'mma download that bizness later in the week. |

Saturnalian wrote: I got the alpha invite so I'mma download that bizness later in the week. The Alpha can only be played at 3 periods during this week , one was between 18:00 and 21:00 last night The next period is between 18:00 and 21:00 on Friday , and the last is some time on Sunday (I think late afternoon but cant remember specifically). This is a good post on Neogaf with one guys thoughts on the alpha so far http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.ph ... tcount=528 ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view! For me I spent a while wandering round and taking on enemies in singles and groups and found 2 sticking points , one was a large beast (who killed me whenever i went too close) the other was the large groups of enemies around the fire , I went for the large groups and eventually passed them to get to other large group areas where there were demon dogs and snipers (its not just you who can use firearms) And as usual with Souls type games after the restart you found yourself flying through the early bits that you had already re-played dozens of times but ever so often you'd mis-time a hit and find yourself in trouble :-) |

I bought the first one of these with some trepidation thinking that it probably wasn't going to be for me but everyone loved it so I gave it a go, I got bored after perhaps ten hours play and never went back to it. I did the same with the second one. This looks so pretty that I'll probably get it thinking that this time will be different and I'll stick with it. I reckon there's a less than 1% chance I'll ever finish it. |

And I think this is one of my favorite quotes from a review (From Jim Sterling) Quote: The weapons you can acquire are not as abundant as they were in previous Souls titles, but every single one is gorgeously designed and more flexible in its use. Each gun and melee weapon behaves differently, and the latter is always able to switch between two forms. One standard weapon, the Saw Cleaver, may be used as either a short-ranged hacksaw held against the forearm, or extended to produce, obviously, a cleaver. My personal favorite, Ludwig’s Sword, is a relatively unassuming longsword that makes swift attacks, with an unusually huge scabbard mounted on the Hunter’s back. When transformed, the Hunter reached behind, sticks the small sword into the scabbard and brings it forward, because that sheathe was, itself, a giant sword.
Bloodborne is a game that lets you put more sword on your sword because you need Too Much Sword. |
