Maybe he didn't fancy facing the gentlemanly wrath of Hislop and Merton, I suspect neither of them would have gone easy on him.

Sandy Tokks-fig fans might be interested to know that Call My Bluff was one of the TV shows pulled out of the archive for the "classic quiz show" group on iPlayer: #group=p02nm7g8">http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0 ... p=p02nm7g8

Slightly off-topic but guess it belongs in this thread. I have been keeping up with the latest season of HIGNFY on iPlayer and it is indeed still really funny and relevant.

No idea if the odd episodes I was referring to were the 'downs' and I was just getting unlucky, or I was in a bad mood or something, but the three episodes I've seen this season have all been great - with both Hislop and Merton on excellent form, good guests, and fine hosts.

Also, Victoria Coren, deffo would. (She was host last week. And one of the guests this week was Camilla Long. Would. In a posh sort of way.)

I'm afraid Victoria Coren/Mitchell has one of those faces I want to slap. And Camilla Long is spoiled goods, having allegedly been interfered with by DLT.

I can't quite get my head around anyone who insists on painting those beautiful Ferraris white, but then, perhaps its merely jealousy on my part...

Let's be honest, the minute he said he 'wasn't interested' it was always going to be him, wasn't it? Bet he negotiated an eye-watering fee; he's made a fair few quid out of Auntie over the years.

Yeah, well, they are his cars so if he wants them to be a colour other than the traditional Ferrari colour* that's up to him.

That's a shame, can't really stand Chris Evans. Will probably still watch the first one at least but I doubt I'll enjoy it.

After seeing him and Clarkson on the TFI Friday one off last week it became a bit more obvious he was in the chair for it.

I liked stuff like TFI Friday at the start but he did become a bit of dick towards the end and sort of self imploded career wise.

He has come back well though, I don't listen to radio very much but by all accounts his is a good show, will be interesting to see what he is like on TV after years of not seeing him.

Wonder were it leaves Clarkson for any rival shows also it wasn't mentioned if the other two would join Chris Evans

I like Chris Evans, but I don't like cars and to be honest, I'm not a massive fan of watching TV so I guess that's me out then.

Carry on.

I think he's had all his Ferraris re sprayed — last time I saw them at Goodwood a couple of years ago they weren't white.

Guy Martin?

I'd watch that, especially if they had him riding some hilarious contraption to his near-death each week like in Guy Martin's Speed. (Though in those episodes the projects took months of work -- I imagine you could have some engineering students cobble together any old crap each week and Guy would still try and make it go fast)

I'd actually like to see that guy 'For the Love of Cars' involved , Ant Anstead. Even Philip Glenister probably wouldn't be terrible but I have a feeling he doesn't really care about the cars.

Actually something made up of 'the mechanic', 'the racer', 'the dumb person to ask questions' would possibly work.

Yeah, how dare they ruin the minute's silence for Top Gear >:(

If anything the main content of the show served only to remind me how stale it had become. Driving caravans round a track again, really?

Hope they spend their recess thinking up some new material and ideas; smashing up old caravans being driven at speed round a racetrack is *so* 2003 (like the OS on my computer :D )

Would be nice to see the back of SIARPC as well IMO, but we won't.

I think that the "history of <whatever>" bits were really good, but driving a Ford Fiesta from a landing craft with 4 Marines as passengers was superb. That whole sequence was superb.

I agree, but I wouldn't be that surprised if it were dropped, or, at least, moved well away from "person who has a new film out that week".

I'd much rather see "Pro Racers IARPC".

It didn't seem to bother Fifth Gear when that started up as almost the exact same show as old Top Gear. Still, I guess there was less unique things about the old one.

I think more accurately, Top Gear had been cancelled and the whole production minus Clarkson migrated to 5

I'm not sure about Matt LeBlanc. I shall withhold judgement until I see him present, of course, but he doesn't strike me as very interesting when he's not being Joey.
