Ip dip sky blue? Wtf?
"Ip dip penny chip" round here, or the more usual "ippy dippy dation, my operation, how many people at the station"

Clarkson's apology is rather pathetic. If you are apologising for something, don't at the same time deny it ever even happened.

If anyone who didn't generate so much money for the BBC had said that in the workplace, it would have been legitimate grounds for sacking, regardless of whether it was on/off camera.

I've had enough of his license fee payer funded racism, sexism, ablism and xenophobia. Off with his head.

Clarkson makes so much money for the BBC he actually *saves* you money on your license fee.

If youre a racist you.laugh and are obviously a racist to everyone around yoy. If you're old enough to know but aren't a racist you feel a bit bad and acknowledge how far we've come. If you're young you hopefully have no clue or mention it and people explain in a responsible way.

Or you work for the mirror and behave like a cunt.

I saw it after being informed what the term was, so felt uncomfortable. Were it not for the cunts in the tabloid press I'd have known no better.

The daft thing is, if you watch the specials where they galavant across some foreign field, Clarkson is usually the most informed and respectful out of the three. He's certainly the most willing to get involved with the local cultural conditions and he quite obviously loves travelling.

The problem is, he's public schoolboy with a northern accent. He's about as sensitive as Boris Johnson in a dentist chair.

Is it the use of the word that is causing such outrage, or has it come around to him using the word so he must be a racist?

There isn't a child in the land who hasn't said the 'eeny meeny miny moe' rhyme at some point. Older versions would have used 'nigger' when the word when in common lexicon without the social condemnation that exists now. In my day it was always 'tiger', but that's quite besides the point.

While it's faintly daft JC didn't merely use the more modern version rather than mumble over the words of old, of course it's not racist. Top-Gear bashing on a completely misleading pretext is an easy target for an idiotic tabloid. It creates the fake furore of people who then retrospectively complain to the BBC about a clip they didn't originally fucking watch. From a couple of years ago. And JC even has note to indicate that he didn't want the mumbled version used to guard against possible offence. They haven't 'caught' him in closet racism at all.

I feel sorry for him that he has to defend himself against fucking morons who think they've sniped him so effectively with the accusation, as being called 'racist' is probably the most heinous insult a celebrity can face these days.

N-word indeed. The word is Nigger. Nigger nigger nigger. Nigger. We're not fucking children. Then we'd be paedos.

I would say that anyone who supported the Paedophile Information Exchange has no place anywhere least of all politics.

I think the word 'support' is a little over-egging the pudding. Despite what the Daily Mail (itself a paper that obviously encourages paedophilia) would have you believe, she wasn't on the front lines trying to fuck kids in public; she worked for a time as a lawyer for a human rights and civil liberties organisation that, amongst hundreds of other causes did for a while give time to the PIE. For the most part though, as detailed in AGM minutes, this was from the standpoint of being against assault on those people trying to have a dialogue about paedophilia. Now, whilst obviously pro-paedo groups are not a good thing, neither is violence and removal of other human rights and liberties.

Let's face it; this story was just the Daily Mail trying to rake muck over the Labour Party, and it failed completely once you got about five words past the headlines. By then, though, of course, the damage is done. No smoke without fire, won't someone think of the children, etc.

For the record, I have never voted for Labour in any election ever, be it council, parliamentary, whatever. So I'm hardly defending them out of any political affiliation.

No, quite right Curio. I think the point being made that is that she, more than anyone, should appreciate that cheap newspaper accusations should not be taken at face value.

She is a typically pathetic politician though, clinging to any bandwagon that she thinks will curry favour with the public.

It never started as an insult and was never meant to be one. The PC brigade has took an old fashioned word and made such a fuss that it’s something that black and white people have no idea what to do with it.

Black people sit pissing themselves laughing at Chris Rock so they have no cause to take offense at the word. You can’t have it both ways.

If you put black or white in front of any standard insult if far more offensive that honky or nigger

I'm kinda astonished at your understanding of this. Of course you can have it both ways. The word was used as a racial insult by white people who controlled and subjugated black people. Those people reclaimed the word to strip it off it's power to control and humiliate them. That happens countless times by oppressed groups. And in doing so, white people have lost the ability to say it because of it's use during slavery and oppression.

It's not about fairness, or PC (gone mad) it's about being civil and kind and caring. That and the fact that part of the reason we sit here in the developed word, at the top of the global food chain is because we founded our nation on the exploitation of others. And pretty much the only cummupance for that is that the white people in our society cant say one word.

You can pretend that this is all in the past, but it clearly isn't. The average wealth of white people versus black people, especially in america, demonstrates that society still hasn't integrated since that exploitation. The sins of the father still benefit the great great grandchildren.

I just think that any white person should have enough understanding and realisation of history to feel shame that their quality of life is built on the exploitation of others, and so avoiding words like that should be something you want to do.

(also; knowing a rich black person, or Obama, doesn't deflate this argument)

I watched 12 Years A Slave and I'm amazed that some black people even want to use the word today: It has such vile and abhorrent connotations. Mind you, 12 Years A Slave wasn't out 30 years ago when rap music started.

That being said, I still rap along with the hip hop music and don't think I'm a racist for doing so.

Also I have no problem using the word whilst talking about the subject, or quoting someone else who has used it. I think that's just down to common sense though, common sense and maturity.

I don't have a problem using the word Nigger when I'm talking about the word Nigger in the context in which the word Nigger is used. None of this 'the word that shall not be named' bollocks. Unless I'm saying something like 'Shut the fuck up, you dumb nigger', there's no problem referencing the word itself.

Again, that's half the point. Society, or perhaps the media, are so fearful of being branded racist they they haven't even the courage to say it in a clinical, referential way.

I'm no fan of Clarkson; as far as I'm concerned the guy's a buffoon, knows very little about cars/driving, and it's a total mystery to me how someone like him can make £14 million a year? Fair play; there's hope for us all. (Albeit, having said that, anyone who describes Gordon Brown as a "cunt" at least has some redeeming qualities, eh).

However, the latest avalanche of faux rage, this time at some entirely un-fucking unbroadcast clip of him reciting a nursery rhyme, with hundreds of fully paid up Guardian luvvies and wannabees all writing into the BBC in unison about how ***disgusted*** they all are, in green ink no doubt (er, despite not having seen anything about it) just makes me sad. Sad at the quite ludicrous country (and people) we've become; all IMO of course.

Gah. I just find it all rather pathetic, really.

Oh Cavey, it's Express and Mail readers who write in complaints, not Guardianistas. They're too busy saving the world from the comfort of their Waitrose.

However, the latest avalanche of faux rage, this time at some entirely un-fucking unpublished letters from Guardian readers that were chastising Clarkson, with hundreds of fully paid up forumites all writing on the forums in union about how ***disgusted*** they all are, in green ink no doubt (er, despite not having seen anything about it) just makes me sad. Sad at the quite ludicrous country (and people) we've become; all IMO of course.

Gah. I just find it all rather pathetic, really.

I'm curious about what these outraged wannabees actually want to be; and why they think writing complaint letters to the BBC will help them achieve their goals, because that seems very unlikely. More than their mock anger I'm appalled and confused by their poor career planning here.

Also, does the Guardian only offer a membership fee for luvvies and wannabees or is the scheme open to other people? And what are the benefits? Aside, of course, from having your letter writing campaigns co-ordinated to the extent of having the individual letters written simultaneously. I mean it's impressive of course, but not massively useful to me.
