Most of me hopes they voted for The GOP as their parents had and their parents before them coupled with their hatred towards Hilary being sufficient to thrust them into the arms of a bullshitting TV star.

Judging by his approval ratings I don't think many people are happy with what they got.

Seriously though I can't see anywhere that people on here have associated supporting the right per se with being a nazi. It's more that the lack of condemnation of nazis that becomes tacit approval that makes them bolder so that they will march with actual nazi flags shouting actual nazi slogans and you know, being actual nazis to the point where proud nazis will then congratulate the president on that tacit approval.

Prior to being elected Trump said that he was going to make Alex Jones of InfoWars "proud". That's Alex Jones who reckons the people causing the violence in Charlottesville were Jewish actors, or that the Sandy Hook victims were all actors paid by the government.

Trump is pandering to a fringe element and each time he does that his policies and actions are dragged that bit further towards the extreme right, so while the KKK and the alt-right et al are clearly not "running the Whitehouse" they have a distinct and visible effect on the actions of the President of the USA.

That shit is all manner of fucked up, in my opinion.

No, I would say that behind closed doors Trump is basically a Nazi himself. My only point really was that punching Nazis in the face probably feels nice but might actually end up making things worse.

Although in this case due to his incredible talent for own goals he has actually come out in support of them rather than just sticking to condemning them with a nod and a wink. So I think it might actually prove to be something of a turning point.

I try to challenge inequality in my daily life in the small ways I can. Rather than listening to a racist taxi driver moan about immigration I'd either disagree and say why, or if he didn't want to listen I'd tell him I wasn't interested in listening to it. If a friend tells a sexist joke I will refuse to laugh and explain why. People are free to say and think what they like but it gets short shrift from me. I try to educate by recommending people read books by those who are affected by inequality. They can explain it far better than me.

What Labour/NHS activism do you do? You act all sanctimonious about the government on here but what do you actually do about it?

I learnt today that most of the Confederate monuments were erected some 90 years after the Civil War, around about the time of the CRM - coincidence? A steel company managed to make them very cheaply and there was a small pressure group who convinced local authorities to put them in parks etc. The poor quality of construction is why they're very easy to tear down.

I guess it would be like erecting a monument to Hitler today. Just really weird.
