I'd question whether it's him being lazy or just being scrupulous with his records, it really wouldn't surprise me to learn that he also records whenever he leaves his office early too. Because despite being a very terrible leader of the opposition I always understood that he had a good record as a hard-working MP and didn't get embroiled in all the expenses mess etc.

But really without knowing the actual habits of most politicians there's no way to know if this is a story at all or just a complete distortion.

I think in the case at hand it's a stupid thing to do, even just for the way it looks. The wider concept of trying to strike a work/life balance I have a lot of time for.

It simply wouldn't be an issue if he was doing a great job. You'd say "Fair enough, if this is what helps you do this great job then you can do it". When you're a blithering incompetent like Corbyn it does seem like taking the piss somewhat.

Wait, that's an EU regulation, isn't it? He's dead set against those fuckers these days.

There are a lot (A LOT) of things to criticise the man for, but I don't think this is one of them. I'm sure during his two leadership campaigns for example he worked incredibly long hours.

Maybe it's a way of saying that the Labour leadership are so disorganised they don't have a proper planning grid but without admitting as much?

Perhaps this is where the confusion arises: I think few would argue that Corbyn's performance is inversely proportional to the weekly aggregate time he spends trying to do the job.
Thus, the more time off in lieu he takes, the better his Party's fortunes.

So yeah, if I were a Labour voter, I'd be imploring Andrew Marr to lock him in the Green Room and throw away the key.

I think taking TOIL to appear on a poltics show ridiculous. It's the job of being the leader of the opposition.

No-one's suggesting he's breaking any laws, or even doing anything that isn't within his rights.
But you know, there's life beyond the letter of the law: there's what's morally right given the circumstances (e.g. £170k salary to be Leader of HM Opposition, upon which giving political interviews on TV/media is absolutely fundamental to perform that role etc.), as well as precedent (ever heard of anyone else who's done this job doing this?) and even just good old, much maligned common sense.

I'm stunned that people struggle with this. But then, I am a Tory after all....

Sadly though, Mali, this is the mindset among many people now, here included it would appear.

I'm stunned that you're extrapolating so much from a rumour when people from all walks of life in different jobs do this sort of thing on a regular basis if they value their home life as much as their work life. It's so weird.

I'm stunned you didn't read where I've repeatedly said if it's true etc.
Besides, if that's your position, i.e. it's all bollocks and we shouldn't even be discussing it, what have you been doing the last couple of pages?

If you're going to troll, you need to be much, much better than this I'm afraid. Next?

Just read yesterday's PMQ transcripts. I thought Mr Corbyn did a pretty good job of going for the government's weak spots. Unfortunately, it was all drowned out by his poor party management and leadership.

I'm quietly ashamed that the government ended a programme to let unaccompanied refugee children into the country, and snuck it out in a written statement.

Trump's government lost an appeal to overturn the stay on the Muslim ban immigration order last night. In response he tweeted SEE YOU IN COURT.

Court is where appeals happen. He was in court. Court is where the attorneys work so that's super convenient for them.

Also, the WA attorney general said in an interview "we've seen him in court and we're two-for-two so far."

In other Trump news:

1) Nordstrom (large department store chain) dropped Ivanka Trump's clothing line, citing poor sales
2) Trump tweeted "My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person -- always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!"
3) That was retweeted from the @POTUS account, which has is deemed to be an official Whitehouse comms channel (e.g. it must be archived under the President's Act)
4) On live TV, inside the Whitehouse briefing room, Kellyanne Conway said "Go buy Ivanka's stuff, is what I would say. It's a wonderful line, I own some of it. I'm going to give a free commercial here, go buy it today."
5) Federal statue 5 CFR 2635.702 says "An employee shall not use or permit the use of his Government position or title or any authority associated with his public office to endorse any product, service or enterprise",
6) Most likely, nothing will come of this because no-one other than the President can take much meaningful action to discipline Conway, plus a million other outrageous things have happened since so the news cycle is already moving on

Checks-'n'-balances, mmmhmmm.

There's a very good reason we're found at different ends of the camera.

Bravo sir.

Someone tweeted that shouting "See you in court!" directly after losing a court case is the sort of thing Gene Wilder would do in a Mel Brooks movie.
