I have enjoyed NFS games in the past (NFSU was fantastic) but the reviews for this haven't much endeared me to it, especially at Origin's amusing prices.
If it's grabbable for £22 I might be a bit more interested though.
It annoys me that they're advertising it with 'unlocked framerate' like we should be grateful or something, when they capped the last one at 30FPS on PC for no reason whatsoever other than being asshats, so they're generously giving us something we'd traditionally take for granted anyway.
The last one was shit. I bought it for £24 IIRC on Amazon and I enjoyed it immensely for a while (even though it was locked at 30 FPS and broke quite badly if you hacked it). However, it was terribly flawed. I probably got about ten hours of enjoyment out of it before it turned into a cunt. However the main flaw ended up ruining it for me. Basically as the game got harder you would start a race and during the race you would earn points and cash. However, toward the end of the race the police would join in and then you could spend an hour trying to get rid of them. If they caught you you lost all of your XP you'd built up during the race *and* all of your cash. The problem with this was the game expected you never to get caught so the difficulty (and speed of the rival cars) would progress but with no XP and no cash there was no way to upgrade your car, meaning the game basically fucking left you behind.
I don't like cop chases in games AT ALL. The AI will never be good enough and it will always be fucking stupid. I just want to race and upgrade my car. Now so far (and I'm progressing through the new one nicely) I have only had to lose the police three or four times. And it wasn't hard, I just get on a nice straight and hit the gas button and before long I'm doing 200 MPH. Bye !
So yeah, so far in this one I have managed to avoid all of that shit and have just been racing and drifting (which is also very good, think GRID's mechanics). I do wish it had drag mode in, but as I say most of it is there. There's circuit, sprint, time trial, drifting, and something akin to Street X (from Underground II) where you race around a tiny little circuit trying to score better lap times.
I think this is about as close to Underground III as we are ever going to get from EA. They haven't listened and that's really annoying, but this game does at least have a good aura about it. And as I say, the graphics are really truly lovely.
Edit. A couple of pics.
