Almost on-topic: can anyone RMD a Nokia with a good camera? N95 would be too bulky.

The N96 is worse than the N95 (although not in the camera sense), but it's almost not much less bulky.

Sure the N95 is too bulky? It's a REALLY good camera for a mobile.

Yep, I've got an N95 and think it's aces, but the person who wants it is a girl with small hands, and she's already told me it's too big for her. (Fnar, etc)

Thanks for all of the advice, everyone.

I am going to re-read through everything, but i think that I will go with 02, and people seem quite positive about teh Sony Errikssons on the most part, so i will probably go with those, too. It doesn't look like I'll be getting to a spupermarket that sells mobiles any time soon, so I think I may actually have to go to an 02 shop, or Argos, or something. Just looking at Argos, does anyone know/have an opinion on which of these phones would be a decent one?

URL for clickage

I buy a phone once about every five years. Actually, no, I have bought one phone in all of my life, the others have all been hand me downs, which happens about once every few years. What I am trying to say is that I'd like a decent phone. It doesn't have to be flashy, but one that I might enjoy using. Is it as simple as the most expensive of those is the best?

OK, I will try and re-read through the thread now, as the first time I tired to the other day it was all number F9ghi, 452gHi, stuff, which I am too out of the loop to understand, but I am awake now.

:)

GPS on phones is, IMHO, for emergencies only. It's properly useless for using in-car.

If its any help Mimi, the W prefix means the phone is geared up more for 'Walkman' Music features and the K prefix means the phone is more about the Kamera. Yes I know it should be C for Camera.

Depends on the phone, I guess. I don't use my "GPS phone" (a HTC Trinity) as a phone any more, as I have my iPhone for that, but when I did it was great. Stick the phone in the holder and it does all the stuff you need it to do.

Mimi - what exactly do you want to know about phone GPS?

Some student had an iphone on my bus to work the other week. They were using it to show some other students how it worked.

It looked like a google maps interface, with the bus centered on the screen, speed, location, orientation were displayed. along with our ETA

Looked quite good really.

The iPhone doesn't do turn-by-turn though, does it? And I think (someone who owns one will be along to tell me in a moment) that it downloads the maps as it goes, which isn't a good thing if you lose signal.

I have a friend who's father is a commercial airline pilot and he claims that non-use of mobiles on planes is nothing at all to do with safety and everything to do with annoying arseholes spending the entire flight talking loudly on their phones and the discord this is likely to engender in the cabin. He also mentioned the fact that most of the airlines are reluctant to give up the raping costs of making aircalls easily, either.

I have the old iPhone, to answer your earlier question.

To answer this, I don't think it does turn-by-turn, no. But TomTom have apparently got a version of their software for the iPhone and are testing it ready for release.

Haven't they been saying that since it came out, though?
And considering that TomTom for the N95 doesn't even have the common fucking sense to USE THE INTERNAL GPS RECEIVER THE N95 HAS I wouldn't hold your breath.

Yes they have, and still no sign of it at all.

You're right that the iPhone's Google Maps client streams the maps off the cellular radip, although it does offline cache them once it has streamed them once. Its alright for "where is the nearest cashpoint" type stuff -- in fact, it's much better than TomTom for on-foot navigation in general -- but almost useless for in-car navigation. I still have my HTC TyTn with TomTom Navigator 7 for that.

Oh! That really does help, because I won't use the walkman part of the phone because I already have an mp3 player with all of my stuff on.

Cheers for the info :o)

They have changed it now (although the C stands for Cybershot rather than camera) for the C700 & C900 series.

If you think that is going to get you off the hook, I can only conclude that you've never actually met any women and the FLIS I've heard over Live is just you putting on a falsetto.

So what youre saying that I manage to beat you twice on COD 4 at the same time using two controllers? Damn I'm good!

And Dudley, she is actually really well behaved and lady like when she's on Live compared to what she's normally like IRL.

I got one with a C in front, not caring at all about the walkman as I have my mucsic wth me wherever I go. I got one with a decent-ish camera (for a phone) for though I have a camera that I love it is HUGE, I mean, the size of my head nearly,
Image
so this'll be OK for casual shots whilst i am out an about andslips intop the pocket with no hassel.

I am slowly entering new numbers and exting people, and now everyone is ringing, and I haven't worked out how to stop it playing a really embarrassing tune every time it does, yet, so it's on silent. :P

Which one did you get? I was looking at the C702 the other day, but there seems to be a bit of a debate about whether the camera (or more specifically the flash) is worse than the K800 (which is what I have at the moment). I'm interested in the GPS/Google maps thing, but I'm not sure if it would just be a novelty. ?:|
