Amazon are starting up their digital PC games distribution site in the UK

http://www.amazon.co.uk/b/?ie=UTF8&node=2683271031

I've used the US one for a while (with a US address) and they often beat the prices for stuff that you'd see on Steam (and then just give the appropriate key for Steam / Uplay or Origin)

Its marked as Beta but looks to have launched with
Far Cry 3 for £9.99 (steam price £19.99)
Blood Dragon for £6.99 (steam price £11.99)
Borderlands 2 for £9.99 (steam price £19.99)

No, but they pay me a healthy commission rate, and more competition in the market is good for me.

What's the deal with DRM? Is it different for each game, like you were installing off a DVD?

Yeah, different for each game.

For many it is a code that registers on Steam/Origin/uPlay, many are a direct download from Amazon, which can either have DRM or be DRM free.

Edit: Amazon US have shown themselves to be DRM ambivalent, and will give you an option of either DRM free or a Steam key where possible, even sourcing Steam keys for some games that are usually not distributed as Steam keys when requested (they did this for Prototype when users on CAG asked for it). Amazon UK is a different team to the US, so I don't know if they will have the same policies, but they seem to be so far. Pretty small selection right now, doesn't look like they have signed devs/publishers up to international distribution deals.

That is a very good deal. Anyone who's not an idiot will buy one immediately.

The only reason you wouldn't is because you already own one.

If it affects your decision, you can take it to any GAME store for a instant full refund if you are unhappy about the condition.

I have heard of them swapping out consoles with minor signs of cosmetic damage for another preowned one that is in better condition too, but that isn't an official policy.

Edit: 12 month warranty, too.

I wouldn't pay 60p for any EA game, especially if you have to use Origin.

Then pay 60p and get a steam copy of

Dead Space
Burny P
Crysis 2
Mirrors edge
MOH

without having to use origin

I'd guess that the 'extra' stuff they normally add in 1/2 way through is going to be some of the missing games in the series (i.e. Dead Space 2 and Crysis 1)

Oh and if the problem is your giving money to EA - all the money from this humble bundle is going to charity

I've already got Dead Space 1 & 2 on Steam. Burny P I played to death on the 360 and have no real need to revisit it sans Bezzies. Also finished Mirror's Edge on 360 too. No interest in playing MOH.

So that leaves Crysis 2, and I haven't played the first one so the story won't make sense... ;)

Pft, story wasnt the point of crysis, justifying expensive graphics cards was.

But more seriously, I dont think not playing Crysis 1 will much affect Crysis 2.

I did somewhat tone down my reply.

t seriously, I did rather enjoy Crysis 2 until I stopped playing it for some reason.

Which is weird, 'cause it's Crysis 1 that has a point of no return when the levels get completely shit (when they take away your scope collection, DAMN IT). Crysis 2 starts off great, gets worse, gets great, gets worse and then gets okay again.

Vita price drop has kicked in -- the 32 GB memory card is down from £55 to £40 at Amazon. But it's also "1-3 weeks for delivery".

And that's still crazy money for 32GB of storage. Are there no third party ones?

It's ridiculous, it's this sort of thing which reminds me that Sony's current stance of respecting their customers is nothing more than a bunch of opportunistic suits who saw an open goal.

There's no third party ones because they basically used the obscene price of the memory cards to subsidise the console, giving up some margin on the console, knowing full well they will make it back from the memory cards, since everyone has to buy one.

Anybody know how Amazgonks are like to get pre-orders to you on the day of release? They've got near enough everything at 35 sponds at the mo. Arkham Orgins for 31, too.

They *used* to be really good at it and were pretty much always hitting release day but I've not had anything from them in a while and they did mess around with their delivery stuff a few months back :-(

Shopto are still the best for release day 'guarantee' although their prices now sorta reflect that.

I were impressed Game managed to get my Saints Row 4 to me a day early. I'm tempted to switch my Arkham order to 'Gonks, and they've got Watch Dogs and AssCreeFuwah at 35 quid which am twinkling at I.

If you do switch let us know if it got there on release day - it would be good to have a choice for day 1 stuff

I have to factor in that postage will cost with the 'gonks, so really they'll come out at 38-9 each. Hmm. Don't sound too great no mooah.

Amazon use different delivery firms in different parts of the country, and some of them are good and some of them are shit.

Edit: Amazon don't charge for delivery for games.

I've had a few emails recently from Amazon saying my pre-orders for a few games have gone from supersaver delivery to release day delivery, so it sounds like they should be on the day or earlier.

Hmm. Only gives me super-saver option. How long did you have your pre-orders for before they upgraded to Supah Boffo Delveri Version 2.0?

I bought one of those Amazon Warehouse deals for £125 and it was in absolutely mint condition. I'd have paid an extra £25 for all these games, definitely.
