I just tilt from landscape to portrait and back again, tapping outside the text box and back in again - that usually fixes it.

Yep, tapping out of the box then back in again usually does it for me.

I bought my Lumia 800 this morning... I'll let you all know what I think as soon as I get around to messing with it.

So far... it's nice!

The official Twitter app seems rubbish.

What's good for Twitter on the Windowsphone? Is there an app that'll remember my position?

Settings, Email and Accounts. Add your Twitter account there and it'll be integrated into the OS itself. You'll be able to link Twitter accounts to your phone contacts and check it from your People and Pictures tiles.

Birdsong is the best 3rd party app if you're not happy with that.

Rowi is my favourite. It's the only one I've seen that remembers your position.

So far the Lumia 800 has impressed me. Whilst the lack of apps does let it down slightly, it does feel like I’m at the start of something special with the operating system. The phone seems logical and very nicely laid out and it’s customisable without looking messy like my Android did. The Live tiles are lovely!

The camera is good but the LED flash makes everything look like.. well, it’s been taken with an LED flash.

I can use my own ringtones (as long as they’re 29 seconds long, MP3 etc) but I can’t use them as notification tones which is annoying. I used to enjoy having my own message/email alert tone.

The battery life however is crap. I charged it Saturday afternoon and it lasted till Sunday morning. I left it on charge on Sunday till about 5pm and the battery has about 20% left as I type this. I’ve hardly used it either as I’ve been at work all morning!

I set it to check for email hourly, and turn on battery saver when battery low.

Yep. I've done that ##684# thingy and it's saying that the battery is operating properly.... It's also says that's it's got something like 65666% capactity too so I'm not convinced.

I need to have a mess with my email settings as currently, I think I've got it set to retrieve both Gmail and Hotmail every 15 minutes.

I just accepted I was going to have to charge it every night really, with the "battery saver when the battery is low" and only checking one email account every 30 minutes thing it's not too bad. I've even got bluetooth activated.

Can I get Facebook notifications on the front? Bit shit having to have the emails turned on. Also a bit shit that the built-in FB sync misses loads while the real app is, well, somewhat flakey. And missing the point. Would that happen if I put the "Me" tile back?

I accepted that when I first got a 'smartphone'. USB lead plugged in next to my bed, job done.

The phone came with a curious leaflet too.. It said something along the lines of only using the supplied charger to charge the phone.

I don't see how it can make a difference but it's made me think.

It might be a higher wattage, like the iPad one is.

So it would make a difference? So doing it's first charge on a different charger could have messed it up?

Oh my...

No, but if it's a higher than normal wattage charger, then using a lower wattage one would just be slow as hell.

Ah right, Thanks. I shall stick with the proper charger from now on.

Still.. very nice phone. I can't wait to see it develop and hopefully more people will get on board and start putting together apps for it. I still can't find a suitable Twitter app for my needs.

Yeah. It's nice and does remember where I am in my timeline, but only picks up the last hours worth of tweets as far as I can see.

This is not ideal as I follow a number of wrestlers (don't laugh) in America who tweet during our night time and I like to catch up first thing in the morning over my cereal.

There is indeed but I think it then forgets where I am in my timeline... I need to have a proper mess with it to be honest, I probably haven't given it as much attention as I could.

I like the people tile. That eliminates the need for lists on Twitter as it shows all the tweets from people in my contacts. Clever.

The marketplace is almost complete gash though, isn't it? 4 million versions of (often pointless) stuff, usually with a few porn variants. Sigh.

I think much like the Apple marketplace, I'm kind of reliant on the wider community to tell me what to buy. And that community isn't really big enough yet.

I imagine there's a fair bit of guff on the Apple Marketplace too, but they've got enough people telling you what's good to avoid it.

Ooh. The one thing stopping me getting the 800 was that the display was smaller than my HD7.

No. I'm happy to wait until the iPhone 5 announcement. Then I'll make a decision one way or the other.

I don't understand why people want massive phones, the HTC Titan is far too massive and the 800 is just one-handable for me. But then I do have stumpy fingers. Helen has to use hers two-handed.

Agreed about the Titan, but I've got the HD7 which is 4.3" and I don't think I could go back now. iPhones just seem incredibly tiny and fiddly these days.

It doesn't help that, neat as the industrial design is, the Lumia corners are thick and sharp, stopping it comfortably resting deeply in the palm. Particularly so with the in-box sleeve.

That's weird - I'm sure the guy in Carphone Warehouse had a double-width IE tile. Stupid if I can't decide myself.

Also grarh, apparently my phone hasn't been able to do anything internet-y since I left home (and therefore Wi-Fi). WTF?

Edit: ARGH! A search suggests people have trouble when roaming, and it did switch to Orange T-Mobile in North Wales at the weekend; flight mode on and off again, and it's back. That's shit.

Me too. It just makes it more difficult to get the layout I want, and I don't want that much.

The complete, un-noticed failure of mobile data has me way more annoyed. Also the fact that text messages are apparently being batched up somehow during the day, but that's Orange's fault.

Not being able to add other google calendars easily is slightly annoying. Going to have to create a shared domain user just to get that one, and we'll have to share our account details.

Still glad I got this though.

It's great earning achievements at work.. It's not like I achieve anything else in the day.

My phone has an annoying habit of saying it hasn't got a signal when it has. You can call off it and receive messages. Strange that.
