That's your silly app then. Tweetie doesn't do it, and I don't think Teletwitter does either. I can't check because my PC has no power.

If you're following @dvdbargain you should unfollow it, as all updates go to @bgcomparison, and @dvdbargain is just for people who won't change over.

Not for me - you must be following him twice, or he's tweeting the feed from two separate accounts or something.

I can only apologise. I put up a message on the old account saying it had done changed, and still people are following it, so I try to please them all.

I twittered about playing poker last night, and now have about six poker themed people following me.

How odd.

Not especially - you can search Twitter and follow people who talk about stuff you're interested in.
Believe me when I say the BeexSwearing twitter user has some odd followers.

That reminds me, http://cursebird.com/ is the same, but it's a search across Twitter itself. I love their stats; today, FUCK is down 1.69%.

You can also enter your own username and get a rating. Mine is "penllawen swears like a Scottish Comedian". But for BeexSwear:

Man, Twitter is starting to make me nervous. If an hour goes by without anyone twittering anything, I start worrying that the entire world outside my office has vanished or turned into zombies or some shit.

I'm not well.

I am pondering a BeexGames Twitter account. It would act as a group, so if you direct messaged it, it would repeat whatever you said out. The idea is we could use it as a more realtime version of the "playing online now/soon" thread. It's more convenient for most people to bang a Twitter out on their phone than to post on the forum.

Non-Twitter users could still subscribe to its RSS feed, so they wouldn't be left out in the cold.

Good idea?

I was thinking the other day that the IRC channel could be ideal for 360 games chatter of an evening.

IRC, you have to be logged in to see it (same for instant messenger), and both of them mostly tie you to a computer. Twitter seems to be the right mix of asynchronous message delivery and strong mobile device support.

Shame Twitter can't deliver via SMS any more. This is one Twitter account I would like SMSs from.

Edit -- see the first post in this thread for updated instructions.
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Done, and working. Here's how it works:

  • The account BeexGames follows your Twitter account (otherwise step 4 won't work, you can only send Twitter direct messages to people who follow you).
  • If you want to game, you follow the BeexGames account.
  • When you want to game, use your Twitter client to send a Direct Message to BeexGames. You can do this on the Twitter website here.
  • After a short delay, your direct message will be reposted from the BeexGames account, like this one. Hence, you have broadcasted that you want to play a game, but all the notifications come from the same Twitter account for neatness.
  • Non-Twitter users can use the BeexGames RSS feed here.

BeexGames adds your name to the message, meaning you need to keep your messages short especially if you have a longish name like me :DD

The rest of the message read "playing Grid & Forza".

Careful, Satan is in there. You don't want to get any on you.

I pondered the idea of hooking the RSS feed from the Twitter account up to this thread, so that Tweets would ultimately find their way here too. But then it occured to me this would only be helping you live in the past, and you never turn up for games anyway.

Yes. That's because of how it works, a third party service (grouptweet.com) polls the accounts for direct messages and then reposts them. Twitter doesn't have any native group support (yet). The polling is obviously not on a very tight loop. It's good enough for these purposes though.
