I've no will either. If I dropped dead today, my parents would probably ask my brother to sell off my stuff as they wouldn't have a clue either. I'll tell him to give you first refusal ;)

Excellent. I shall make sure I offer good prices minus my 15% grievance fee.

As for sharing my spreadsheet Davpaz... Are you crazy? There's prices on there and everything! I'm not that brave.

I really need to make a will because the house / kids / wanker ex situation worries the shit out of me but I keep putting it off.

I'll sort it after I've backed up my laptop.

Katy from Cbeebies is offering to do kids parties in the style of her programme, I can cook.

It's a bit extravagant, but I'm seriously tempted.... But is it more for my benefit or the kids? Hmmm....

She definitely isn't that much.... Search for her on twitter and you'll see she's tweeted the email address to get in touch with her about it.

She's responded to 2 of my emails so far so you could say that we're best friends.

Oh, it's Burns Night.

This Burns Night I will mostly be celebrating in the traditional fashion, and watching Ghost in the Shell at the cinema.

I'm the worst (1/4) Scottish bloke ever.

True, but the ones I know of normally run around £300 when you add everything up.

Mind you, you'd have to add everything else (cake, hall hire, party bags, etc) to the £600 as well.

If I wanted to lech over current Kids TV presenters it'd be the ones from Milkshake.

For my youngest daughters birthday last year we went to the zoo. They put on an ace party which included presents and party bags and even a cake. We only supplied extra cup cakes (but that's because my wifes best friend has a cake making business)

All this came in around £250 if I remember and I thought that was a lot so yeah, you're probably right about the £300 mark.

Crazy when you think about it? When I was younger I had a couple of friends round to play video games and that was it. We'd celebrate with a piece of chocolate cake.

We had one of the Grimlet's parties (fifth, maybe?) in the house, and it was a fucking nightmare.

Obviously he enjoyed it just fine, but the house was trashed. Granted it cost about £50 all in, but I'm happy paying the extra, I think.

A good one is to go to the Cinema for the Sunday kid's club film. £2.50 per head, and you make up a box of popcorn and stuff for them when they're in there. Hand out party bags at the end and you're fucking done.

I swear I didn't have a party every year, and if I did then I had to choose a cheaper present.

I suggest that to Mrs Grim... and she looks at me like I'm properly insane.

[edit] Of course, now I have three parties a year, so maybe that's due to the trauma of my childhood
[edit2] I broke 60,000 posts at some point.

We've done I think three parties for each of the kids - one at home with traditional party games and that, one at laser quest, and a "go bananas" one. Other than that they've not really wanted parties, and instead have preferred to do something with us instead - so we went to Centre Parcs, Legoland, trip to London or weekend at the beach for another etc. Works out about the same as a full on party these days, and is a lot more fun for us. :)

I can't remember. A lot of stuff i have suggested to MrsA about kid's stuff* has gotten that reaction.

*If cash given to kids, we use it to overpay mortgage and write the amount down in a book. The money works better in the hkuse than in the kid's bank account, and unlikely kid will call on large sums for a while. Also, stop buying presents for other people's kids past age 12.

Age 10 I reckon. It's ridiculous the amount of presents we have to buy for other children. I've told my wife to stop but she doesn't and instead, gets really stressed every Christmas about it.

I mentioned that a large group of my friends all put the money together to go on a day trip rather than presents which was much better... but there's still shit loads of other children that need me to spend £6-£10 on them.

The only parties I remember going to as a child were at McDonalds, when our local one used to have a pirate ship children's area. I've no idea whose birthdays they were for - my memory of my childhood is so sparse, which annoys me.

This is a good idea. Also, the cinema is great for first dates. You get to chat a little when you go in, sit in silence for 90 minutes and then you'll be able to talk about the film rather than have awkward silences. Job done.

I went on a first date to the cinema once to see 'I know what you did last Summer'. The girl I was with (who was Scottish, can't remember her name) jumped at every little scare. That annoyed me enough to not see her again. Harsh, but fair.

Swimming is good for first dates as you're not wearing lots.

Going to cinema turned into £100 quid to watch a film though, once we took in travel, food and drink etc.

You're only considering gross cost though. You have to factor in yield per head.

I have to agree. Do You Know is a gateway drug into How It's Made, though.

Also, the cinema is great for first dates. You get to chat a little when you go in, sit in silence for 90 minutes and then you'll be able to talk about the film rather than have awkward silences. Job done.

The first date I had with Mrs Grim... was to the cinema. All I knew about her was that she was a bit posh and liked disco music, so I chose Boogie Nights, which I honestly thought was about Abba or something.

Spoiler alert: It wasn't.
