No, but I need this in my life, otherwise I'll still be watching 'Fireplace For The Home' on a loop for the next twenty years.

It's roasting hot outside, and the sight of that roaring fire doesn't help make me feel any cooler.

You should have turned the tables and quietly tutted while slowly shaking your head, before smiling sweetly and saying "I'm sure it won't have too much of an adverse effect on his development"...

She was actually, of all the HVs I've met, not that bad (considering I rate them on a scale of Thatcher to Beelzebub).

I'm really not a fan of the developmental tests, though. It's ridiculous that if my boy didn't pick up her green triangle with one hand he'd be marked didn't and need a return test. Anyway, it least it's done and dusted, next test is 16 months away.

Some might say that's a narrow scale.

She pinched the corner off of some blue roll, about the size of a rice grain, got him to pick it up. Put down two blocks to see if he'd pick one up in each hand, then smack them together. See if he bangs the blocks on the table. watch him roll over, can he sit up, get on hands and knees, etc. Five rounds of six tests, up to 10 points for each test. He's strong and curious, so he actually got 300/300, but if he was tired or didn't want to play her block games, would he have been barked down and required the return visit. I think it was that she made him demo state all the skills rather than just trust that if I say he can bash blocks together that I might know that.

My wife had the same problems with these tests with our two but I said that they aren't designed for people like us who are going to care for and encourage our kids.

When you manage to read that as "See if he bangs the bollocks on the table.", you begin to get quite worried about the examiner yourself.

Well I wouldn't want to play if there was a threat of being barked down. Bastards!

Coming back to this at the end of my first week at work, and yep, I do like to take pride in my work.
I'd much rather go home at the end of the day and feel I've done something worthwhile, and fingers crossed it's looking promising that I'll be able to do this here.

Only by accident. As a result, I have to reconstruct reality around this so it works in my favour. It's very hard being me.

No pics, yet, as I'm only wearing shorts right now.
