17th Edition - I refer to it but haven't done a course or taken an exam. There's a lot of stuff to remember and if you don't already have a grounding in it (ho ho), it could be pretty dry. Let me know how you get on though!

Depending on your current version the guide is a little out of date but the theory behind it is all still sound , you still need an exploit and a method to run it so you can install the homebrew channel and you can do pretty much everything else from that point on

Ha. The local newspaper and/or the local police have fallen for a hoax warning

Quote:
Hang up on mobile phone scam

Last updated: 10/30/2009 10:12:00 AM

MOBILE phone users in Suffolk are being warned of a scam which enables fraudsters to use your SIM card to make calls at your expense.

Suffolk police said the offenders are calling people saying they are a company engineer. They say they are checking the phone line and ask you to press #90 or #09.

The fraudulent caller then uses a device that enables them to access your SIM details and make calls on you.

Police are urging anyone who receives a call like this to hang up immediately without following the caller's instructions.

For further information or to report an incident, call Suffolk police on 01473 613500.

For stuff like that pavement electricity generator, I wonder if they ever create enough useful power to make up for the energy used creating and installing them in the first place.

Cute. Got to wonder whether it's as cost effective and reliable as solar, though.

@Squirt: the point of things like this is to offset the cost (and materials and labour etc) of the alternative grid connection that you would otherwise need.
Clearly the electricity generated will be very expensive compared to grid price, but that doesn't matter if you're only lighting a few LEDs.

I didn't like that one. If you've got a revolving door, you've got a building in a town, so you don't need expensive ways of generating tiny amounts of electricity. They also over-claimed on the amount it could generate by about 1000x.
