Anyone got any idea what a "value enhancing media laydown" is?

Surely the done thing in such situations is to have a tumblr page where you post everything AlternoTroops buys.

No.

I guess eBay don't send you an email to confirm your email address when you set up your account.

Seems not, they just send a welcome email after the fact.

I've done it based on username now :) especially as eBay like to send stuff from randomly changing email addresses.

Y'know those photosphere things I've been boring everyone's tits off with recently? Well due to the recent release of the Google Play Editions of the HTC One and Galaxy S4 people have been able to pull out the camera app, which includes the ability to take photospheres, as an installable APK so you can stick it on any Android phone. Well, I've just taken an photosphere with my Galaxy Note 2 and it worked fine on that, it's not certain it'll work on every Android phone I suppose. Anyway, some further chat and a download link here.

Be aware of two things though:

  • You'll now have two separate camera apps on your phone (which isn't too annoying as, if my phone's anything to go by, they'll have totally different icons)
  • You'll also have two different Gallery apps, with one of them being the Google one that knows how to display photopsheres. This is a bit more annoying because they both have the same icon on my phone but I've got shortcuts for what I need on the home screen anyway so it's not a massive deal.

I'm curious to know if the app works on other people's phones; mine is pretty similar in a lot of ways to the Galaxy S4 so I don't know if it's just that which is allowing it to work on mine or not.

Was lovely to hear a cornish accent on radio 4. Lovlier still to find out that Wales has to import pretty Cornish Maids to work as lapdancers.

I've been listening to all the old "The Infinite Monkey Cage" podcasts and I have decided that Robin Ince is actually our very own Curiosity with a hint of Stewart Lee thrown in from time to time.

Heh. A few of us were trying to get access to one of the rarely accessed servers in our live environment and were totally struggling. We tried various hostname and aliases; we tried going over Citrix to a different LAN and all sorts. I was halfway through trying to work out the raw IP address by pinging it from elsewhere when someone else pointed out that it's a Windows box and you just RDP in.

It's the most ridiculous non-story.

Wealthy man orders nice burger. It cost about 6 quid. It's not like it was made of foie gras and swans!

Fuck sake, this kind of pish really annoys me. Who gives a shit what they eat? Focus on the quality of the job they're doing you hack fucks. With this and the whole fucking sausage roll incident you know that there will be people all over Westminster spending a non-trivial amount of brain power working out how best to represent a politician's eating habits rather than, I don't know, assisting them in governing the fucking country or something. Aside from anything else it's hardly extortionate for a fucking burger and to abuse someone for not eating at McDonalds is so bizarre and wrong that I can scarcely believe it.

Weird news of the day #37

On wednesday, John Travolta had a ride on the narrow gauge railway that runs past my old house.

Hey! If you're in Shoreditch and don't fancy a #guardiancoffee, why not pay £5 to sit in a cafe filled with cats? £10 for tea and cake! Jesus fuck!

There's a little charity cafe up the road from me that has a very friendly cat. I like to go there and have a coffee because I miss my cat.

I said I'd go out for a few drinks with some people from work tonight, in move to I dunno what, really. Anyway, I said I'd drive t'lad down from work into Saltaire and then we'd walk to the pub. MrsA didn't want to come. Now, as it happens, I'm driving t'lad down, and some lass. T'lad is going to get his haircut, meeting us later, whilst I'm going for a drink with the lass or something and now MrsA is all "which pub are you going to and at what time?" so this isn't awkward and i suspect all my fault, too.

When visiting Mrs B's mum in Lanzarote there's a place we go for breakfast sometimes where many of the tables have a friendly cat dozing in one of the seats; it's fucking awesome. I'd totally pay a £5 to have tea somewhere that was full of cats.

Argh, modern problems of a middle aged man. I want to get some new model railway stuff, and want to go for American freight trains. I can't decide between N gauge and HO gauge. N gauge would save space, but HO gauge has lovely lovely detail.
