Not that I wish to bring down the overall joviality of the thread, but I gots some sad news. My remaining pet rat, Noodle, died on Tuesday. She developed a brain tumour (just like her late sister did), but she went downhill with it much faster. The treatment she was given did nothing and in the end we had to put her to sleep.

I have to say, I'm fucking gutted about it. I'm going to have to think long and hard before I buy any more pets.

I'm really very sorry to hear that. It's never easy when a pet dies, but they are worth it. When my cat dies (hopefully in many, many, many years - she's two years old next week) I don't know how I'm going to cope, but I wouldn't give up my time with her now.

Sorry about your rat, Zio. Pets dying is shit, but the years of fun before that really do make up for it. Get another rat for more fun times!

Why do you do that sometimes, Mali? You know you're saying something insensitive and likely to upset, and most people would let their instinct of taste kick in. Even if the thought crosses your mind, why would you then post it?

I don't think you're a thoughtless kind of guy, but sometimes you act a little like one.

More thoughtlessness than anything else. Sorry for any offence caused, I'll ask my vet friend next time.

Apologies all around.

GAWD.

I'm not sure if anyone here reads Vice magazine, but it's basically a free magazine that you can pick up in certain shops that stock it. Unfortunately the shop near me has stopped stocking it, so I subscribed for £35. Two months later and I still haven't received a magazine, so I emailed them and was told my issue would be forwarded to the subs department. That was a week ago. SO, I said:

Quote:
Hello,

I still haven't heard anything from the subs department. It has been well over two months now since I gave you guys my money and I'm yet to receive anything, so I'd just rather have the money back to spend on crack or something. How do I go about getting a refund?

Thanks,
Jonny

And now I have £35 in my PayPal account. Yay!

Don't be without thought, because you are not a thoughtless kind of guy. Pets mean a lot to some people, and even if you're not a sentimental type, sometimes you just have to try and empathise.

£35? It's just a book of adverts with the occasional interesting feature. They've got a weekly newsletter that links you to all the interesting stuff, it's free.

Yeah, but, have you read the photo issue? That's worth the £35 alone. Every page you could cut out and stick on your wall.

Just had a quick look at the eurogamer review of fight night round 4, well the last few paragraphs and it got a very reasonable 8/10. Although it seems to have been marked down because you have to use the analogues sticks to throw punches, which to me seems pretty harsh, I know the last version had button pressed punches but even that game was more focused on the player using the sticks.

Anyway was just wondering for other examples were certain fixed controls brought down review scores.

Also when the tiger woods games switched to the analogue could you still use the buttons to swing?

Are there any ways to reinstall Windows on a laptop whose disc drive doesn't seem to read discs any more, and whose 'SYSTEM' folder is apparently corrupt? Is it possible to install Windows via USB, or is it time to throw this fuckdamned thing out? Cheers, folks!

USB CD-ROM drive would be the best, probably. I think installing Windows from USB thumbdrives is awkward.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs X

Thanks, mate. Will the laptop check the USB drives automatically on startup, though? I can't get as far as the Windows desktop itself, natch. At the moment, though, when I attempt to install Windows, it says that my disc may be damaged without even really attempting to read it. It's also only asking for a Service Pack 3 disc, whereas I want to reinstall the whole thing.

It's a very weird little laptop. I've had to skip an XP installation screen on every startup for the last few months, presumably because I canceled half way through one a while ago...

I dreamt last night that the scary bearded farmer from Vicar of Dibley was reading to schoolchildren from a book of Victorian ghost stories in a park in Penarth.

The story was something about a group of sheep watching and laughing at a funeral, peeking out at it from behing tombstones.
