We have a dress code. They've given up trying to enforce it on the IT team.

I'm guessing it's not slogan t-shirts and shorts then?

Some days I dress up a bit even though I'm working at home because it helps me feel a bit more "office-y" even though I've only ever worked in environments with a relaxed dress code.

Today is not one of those days.

It is not. I forget what exactly it is, but one of the things involves shaving every day. LOLRITE

Fuck that! What if you told them you were growing a beard? And then three days later change your mind... ;)

It is unlikely you will ever be the worst dressed person in Glasgow

I would say if you're 35+ then you're too old for them.

Don't listen to him! I'm 35+ and I would definitely wear them.

I've only just got rid of my heelies.

Cut-offs as well? Nah, that's a bad fashion call.

Foojitsue has dress down Fridays, but to be frank, it's hard to tell. Some of the office based/non-customer facing people here look like they should be somewhere in a shopping precinct pushing a trolley full of used carrier bags, glass bottles and empty beer cans, every day of the week.

Today, I wearing a corporate polo shirt, engineer's trahziz with little pockets for knee pads, and my branny Dr Marten's industrial shoes, which is pretty much dress-down for me anyway.

I think Russell showed me a study once where it was found that work place productivity goes up when staff are not restricted by a dress code. The staff feel more comfortable and autonomous, happier in the workplace (as you tend to be showing) and as such work and productivity increase.

I'd heard that too, apparently it's the other way around in schools, which I can understand.

I don't mind wearing 'work clothes', it's nice to get home and get changed, for me there's a definite divide between work and personal time that way.

Mind you, if I have to visit a customer site, I have to wear a corporate polo shirt, engineer's trahziz with little pockets for knee pads, and my Dr Marten's safety shoes. It's the law.

And if I'm training engineers, I usually wear a corporate polo shirt, engineer's trahziz with little pockets for knee pads, and my one of my pairs of Dr Marten's shoes, so they can tell I'm not just a trainer who knows nowt, but has been out there on me knees with the best of them.

You are really far behind the MaliCool curve. I mean, so far behind that curve that you come 360º round and meet him again. It's kind of amazing.

My work and personal time is easily divisible based just on whether I'm physically in the office or not which just makes 'work clothes' something I'm expected to spend my own money on that I wouldn't be buying otherwise. I feel more comfortable wearing my own choice of clothes in general and the financial aspect isn't much of a factor as such; but in principle it's always pissed me off. Even more so because there's no reason at all to have a dress code at my office.

Sounds like you've had my homebrew.
But it's not like I'm immediately recoiling from the taste, when I would take it back, more that something's not quite right. Perhaps it's the end of the barrell. And I think I'm too far down now to claim a new drink, but not so far to think I've got my £3.70's worth.

I think I'll take a pass on that one...

Don't worry, one day she'll be old enough to leave home.

Tonight, I'm totally going to eat dinner wearing just my pants because I can. Thank god for kids old enough to stay out drinking all weekend with their mates, and every other week custody arrangements.

These are good times.

That's 90% of 'real ale' for you. Sometimes it's shite, most of the time people don't know how to store it. Glad you've come to your senses. ;)

I did find an absolutely cracking cask ale when I went out with my dad the other weekend though.

If you receive an invitation to apply for a job with an industry rival via LinkedIn, do you think it's churlish to reply, pointing out that the invitation contained typos?

Perhaps I should mention here that I am not qualified for the job in question so I have nothing to lose.

To the above: dunno.

As a general observation: there seems to be a lot of grumpiness around at the moment. Not just here either. Is this a seasonal thing? It seems to happen every now and again but I never pay attention to when.

Probably astrology.

I'm old, so grumpiness is my default position, but I try to resist it.

I blame the Internet for the increased grumpiness. Too easy to troll anonymously, which is why some sites are proposing to cease allowing readers to post comments, I believe.

Kids today prolly can't be arsed to put pen to paper, stick it in an envelope, buy a stamp and go to the post box, then wait to see if their missive is published. They want the instant gratification of starting a flame war on-line.
