The only one out of that lot I'm definitely interested in is Watch Dogs. Not that I know what PS4 launch titles I'd want either actually but I won't be buying any console at launch due to backlog anyway.

Watch Dogs will be available on every platform and his dog, so I wouldn't worry about that.

If the PS4 catches up to Xbox in terms of multiplayer facilities, I can see absolutely no reason to prefer Forza over Gran Turismo. Quite the opposite.

Out of the rest of the exclusives, only Crimson Dragon really interests me, maybe Dead Rising 3 as well, pending reviews.

Nothing Ive heard about Dead Rising 3 has made me want it. Its almost as if theyve taken every reason I liked Dead Rising and done the opposite.

The more I think about this free Fifa 14 thing, the stupider it appears. Without wanting to generalise, the sorts of people who would be swayed by this are mainstream gamers who tend to buy 2-3 games a year, tops. They were also probably going to buy an XBO anyway, as they don't care about reselling games etc. Fifa games end up being worth nothing after 12 months.

Suddenly you're giving them one of these 2-3 games for free, but it's not going to encourage core gamers to jump ship and switch allegiances. I just don't get it.

I really think its an attempt to answer the price difference between the two.

"Yes the Xbox is more expensive but if you add in a game and the Playstation Eye when you buy a PS4 they are the same price"

(Note if you just buy a PS4 and a copy of Fifa 14 your still going to be cheaper than buying a launch Xbox One and you can resell the game on the PS4 if you want)

Who the fuck plays football games anyway? Quite a lot of people I expect but I bet there's far more who would never even look at one. Surely some shooter or other would have had a broader appeal.

But they'd buy that same in-game content in the 360/PS3 versions anyway. This is purely to shift consoles.

It's pretty obviously just to shift consoles. MS will have given EA a big bag of money for this.

Preorders and hence Day1 sales are important, in trumping the competition on the good news story. Hence why I think this is (so far) apparently pre-orders only, and not a pure 'in the box'. Swing voters are heavily influenced by which option appears most popular and likely to succeed, so taking the Day 1 lead may help Day 2 sales significantly.

If so, why is it Xbox One only? Why only for pre-orders? If EA felt it could make more money from in-game content than it could from upfront game purchases, it'd just take FIFA entirely free-to-play. The fact that it isn't F2P indicates to me that no, this isn't just a way to sell in-game content.

There was also that stat a while back that reckoned a significant majority of console owners only buy a couple of games a year ie Pes/FIFA & Cod. Serious gamers aren't their target market, more just a bonus.

Amazon US's Xbox one games upgrade program

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/? ... ag=34a6-20

Buy a 360 version of the game , and then trade it in for $25 + 'at least $25' which should make the Xbox One version $9.99

Seems that there's a bit of a gap in Microsoft's self publishing plans.

First they say this:
Quote:
We do not require exclusivity agreements. However, we do ask for day one parity with other console game platforms.

Then when asked:
Quote:
Microsoft announced its indie and self-publishing policies yesterday, and the company said that it isn't asking for exclusivity but "we do ask for day-one parity with other platforms". Looking at the abundance of indie games announced by Sony as timed-PS4 exclusives, what happens now that all these games have not met that requirement?

So we think there's some incredible talent in the industry that wants to self-publish on our platform. There are developers who tell us they would love to self-publish on our platform and would like our support and together we have crafted a platform that gives them access to tools and devkits, and we have levelled the playing-field in terms of discoverability, so that developers can connect their games with gamers.

The reaction we've been getting from developers has been extraordinary, it's been very gratifying, and I'm pretty confident that developers will chose the unique attributes of Xbox One to build unique experiences.

But what happens now that all these PS4 games have not met your release date parity requirement?

It's a good question. I don't know the answer to that.

Sony have no such release date parity requirement.

Microsoft's exclusivity requirements in the past have been 6-12 months exclusivity, and you cannot mention other versions until exclusivity expires. Sony are typically asking for 1 month's exclusivity (but it is not a requirement, they have a reasonably flexible negotiation process), and they are happy for you to announce a PC or other versions whenever you want.

Loads of big indie games have signed to giving Sony a (small) exclusive window, Hotline Miami 2, N++, Rogue Legacy, Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Volume and more.

So according to what MS have currently stated, none of those games will qualify for self publishing on Xbox One.

I think they're either going to have to flip flop on this again, or they'll miss out on a huge amount of great indie games.

That is what is being reported at the moment although they seem to think confirmed for the US and not rest of the world

http://kotaku.com/the-xbox-one-might-be ... 1204282442

Quote:
The Xbox One Might Be Out On November 8

The PlayStation 4 is out in the US on November 15. The Xbox One? Well, it's looking like it could hit the market a week ahead of its competitor.

While Microsoft is yet to officially announce the big day, and "release dates" on retailer sites are usually little more than window dressing, we've heard from someone a little closer to the launch that Microsoft is planning a November 8 release for its latest console.

The source, who works for a marketing company that handles signage and product placement for retail giant Walmart, passed along what they say is an email for a company conference call that lists all the midnight openings the chain has planned.

As you can see, alongside the big holiday games, and just before the PS4, is the Xbox One, at November 8. Note however that, unlike every other date listed, the Xbox One's lacks a "confirmed" status, suggesting Microsoft is yet to lock the date down.

The fact it's not locked down of course means the day could change, but it also suggests it's a recent decision. Almost as though Microsoft were waiting for Sony to commit to a day before scheduling their own launch, in order to get the jump on the PS4.

Some people got limited access to the xbox one yesterday.

Purexbox has 3 articles up about it (I can't link to them, as they're blocked by work)

Which sound reasonable positive.

I know the guy that runs it, he wouldn't be saying good things (and it's not all fanboy stuff) about it, if it was shit.

The guy sitting opposite me at the moment also went to it, and he's been raving about it all morning.

Again
TL:DR > If you made a preorder before the FIFA announcement, then unless it has been converted to a 'Day One Edition' Xbone preorder, you're not getting FIFA.
And if you cancel your preorder to get a 'Day One edition', then tough shit, there aren't any left.

I think you're missreading that (or the website you're linking to is). I preordered (from Amazon) before Fifa was announced. When Fifa was announced my order was converted to the one with fifa.

I think it just means that it's first come, first served with respect to who get it. But surely that's always been the case with any limited edition thing?

I think you're misreading my post, and specifically, missing the word 'unless'. If you preordered an Xbone early doors, you didn't pre-order a Day One edition, because they didn't exist. If your supplier has converted the order, as did Amazon in your case, then good for you. But there is no certainty that they will.

What with little changes like this (EUROGAYMER) and the other small additional like the XBONE having it's separate OS with separate memory I'm going to be very interested to see both these consoles side by side.

I'm actually feeling like MS might just be doing something right.

Time will tell though young grasshopper.

Either you're all doing it wrong or the Kinect prefers fat people. I've never had any issues with mine (apart from when I try to play some things with the Grimlet, and it can't see both of our heads or feet at the same time due to the height difference).

I want to like the Kinect, I really do and for simple games I think it works quite well. There's 2 baseball games that come to mind (which I can't remember the name of) but they involve swinging a bat or throwing a ball. Nice and simple.

It's when games get a bit more complicated when I struggle with Kinect. Rise of Nightmares is frustrating and slow. This is a shame as the story reminds me of the movie Hostel and it looks lovely. Also frustrating is Dragons Lair... It's impossible with Kinect.

I think my kinect setup is close to ideal. I have the camera on a shelf at eye level above the TV and 10ft of clear space in front. Enough space for 2 dancers =]

Previous statements about the amount of time a game will be recorded on the Xbox one seem to have been *slightly* exaggerated

We can confirm the recording buffer in Game DVR is 5 minute
