Everyone used to just go along with it, but now I notice many more people put the card in the machine before the assistant asks, and if the assistant still asks say that the prefer to use teh machine. The till assistants get rather haughty over it, too. I've never seen this in another M&S.

I don't know - I mean, the machine and till must be linked, as even if they do swipe your card through the machine you still enter your pin on the same chip and pin machine keypad - I think it is just another way of collecting the card data. I think, to be honest, that because Lancaster M&S is quite small, and mainly sells food, that about 85% of the clientele are rather old * - maybe they just got bored of saying 'no, other way up... no, flip it over... no, look, this end in first' but clearly I am able to handle my own card.

I don't think it is anything to do with the card number being linked to purchases as I have never seen it in another M&S.

*And make you walk around them. They pick a spot in the distance and walk towards it. If you happen to be standing between themselves and that point you better jump out of their way, otherwise they will just walk full-body into you and blame YOU even though you were stationary and they were walking. Also, if they get in front of you they will stop walking 'normally' and slow to a barely mobile shuffle. Then they'll stop dead and talk to someone they know. You can then say 'excuse me'. "Hello? Excuse me.' Excuse me please. EXCUSE ME. EXCUSE ME! at which point one of the old dears will do a 340 point turn and say 'We heard you the FIRST time!'

So, not deaf, just rude.

Shop online, man! But also, M&S boxer shorts/pants are the best. Also also, most of the people who shop in the cool shops aren't cool. They're cunts. You're cool because you don't knows it! That's how cool works.

Clothes shopping at M&S is not so terrible - it's just the food section. Also, yes, their underwear section is fantastic for women's lingerie, also.

Their clothes for men are pretty rubbish, I always thought. Decent enough for shirts etc. but not everyday clothing.

I like their food. I had some gammon wrapped in bacon the other day, and did my own honey-glazing. It was absolutely lovely.

My kids are much better dressed than anyone I know, as it happens. Honestly, if they made some of that stuff in adult size I'd totally buy it. T-shirts with dancing robots and The Koolasaurus? Fuck yeah!

Sadly, one thing that irritates me about the Koolasaurus t-shirt is that it says something like "since 42,000 BC" which is, of course 64,958,000 years after the dinosaurs died out. I've had to explain this to First Born in case he should learn Incorrect Facts.

I shop for clothes at far cooler places. As long as they've got a sale on. I can't remember the last time I paid full price for jeans.

Not that I wish to bring down the overall joviality of the thread, but I gots some sad news. My remaining pet rat, Noodle, died on Tuesday. She developed a brain tumour (just like her late sister did), but she went downhill with it much faster. The treatment she was given did nothing and in the end we had to put her to sleep.

I have to say, I'm fucking gutted about it. I'm going to have to think long and hard before I buy any more pets.

Heh, one of the advantages of her not living with me is that she's kinda already got one. Her mum has a pet Westie called Rupert who is amusingly hyper-protective of Zioette - whenever Zioette starts crying, Rupert runs over and starts licking her feet to try and calm her down! :D

Rats are lovely little pets, but they sure break your heart regularly due to their short lifespan. When we lost Cosmo, it was only a month or two before his brother went too.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs X

How much does it cost to get a rat put down? I was taught the "pick it up from underneath, put your thumb underneath the back of the rat's head and make like you are opening a bottle against a wall" action, as that cleanly snaps the neck.

Sorry to hear that Zio. :(

I've loved my pet rat Lemmy back in the day, so named 'cause he was black as the Ace. He was so tame he used to sit on my shoulder all day (even when I was out in town - used to get a few funny glances as he gnawed at my default Iron Maiden T-shirt) and he loved doing acrobatics off my bedsit clothes horse contraption. :)

Why do you do that sometimes, Mali? You know you're saying something insensitive and likely to upset, and most people would let their instinct of taste kick in. Even if the thought crosses your mind, why would you then post it?

I don't think you're a thoughtless kind of guy, but sometimes you act a little like one.
