Although I've only watched the first episode. Anyone else caught any of this series yet?

Finished watching this last night and it's bloody brilliant. Fans of The Wire especially should appreciate it.

Ok, is it a follow on from the Wire? I haven't seen that yet.

No, this is about US Marines in Iraq, it seems like a dead straight up account though rather than the load of patronising, moralising bollocks that everything else about that war seems to be. It's an adaptation of a book written by a Rolling Stone magazine journalist who was embedded with some front line troops. Some of the writers and producers of The Wire were involved though and you can really tell. It does the same trick of making pretty much every other TV drama look like a school play.

This is good, because they've effectively destroyed television for me with this, and utterly anhilated the BBC's output for the foreseeable future. The only thing I can think that comes close is Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and the Beeb aren't going to do anything that bleakly awesome for a whiles.

That said, Bleak House was pretty bloody good.
