Hello. I went to the Phoenix Festival in 1996. I've been fondly recollecting it this week, due to people saying e.g. 'I'd love to see Neil Young live' and stuff.

I really want to find the line-up for the entire festival. And, bootlegs of any of it would be awesome also. It's the line-up that I want most of all though - a scanned-in poster would be perfect.

Anyone maybe able to help? Bit of a long shot, I know ?:|

You know when you throw stuff away? You know when you've been keeping something for a decade, and finally decide that it has no use, and that you may as well lob it, because nobody will ever be interested in it?

I threw away my Phoenix 1996 programme away when I last moved house. I went there too, it was ace. And I'm now annoyed that I finally threw away the programme. Arse.

Sorry I can't be more help, other than to relate bands that played off the top of my head, such as Massive Attack, Bjork, Shed Seven, Terrorvision and others (as well as Neil Young, David Bowie and the Sex Pistols)...

fuck me thats sounds pretty good, for how many actual big artists would usually take up most of festivals money.
On seeing the thread title I thought CUS had finally cracked the science behind a time machine and thought a festival a decade ago would be the prime time to use it rather than kill off hitler.

Massive Attack, too?

I grumble.

If you're really interested in finding out, trawling a website such as e-festivals might be helpful... though the webmaster is a gigantic cock of such spectacular proportions that he makes *insert person you dislike* look like *insert person you like lots*

I went to the Phoenix Festival in 1992. (I think. Maybe 1993.)

I remember the following things -

1 - A near riot involving surging crowds and fencing being torn down. My first and so far only first-hand insight into mob mentality. A weird feeling, especially afterwards.

2 - Cathal Coughlan whipping off his sunglasses during the Fatima Mansions set and suddenly being the coolest person ever.

3 - Julian Cope being a brilliant freak.

4 - Consolidated and Disposable Heroes being the "rap for people to uptight to like real rap" brigade, but still be ace.

5 - Hole being boring as all shit. I wandered off after a few songs, much to the confusion of one guy who saw my Hole t-shirt and wondered why I was leaving.

6 - Sonic Youth insulting the crowd by refusing to play any of their then-current hits and instead playing, I dunno, b-sides from 1983 or something.

7 - Getting a taxi into the nearest town to have a poo as all the toilets were overflowing and awful. I'd left it to long, though, and couldn't go. Finally managed to poo a couple of days later, back at home.

8 - Gremlins 2 outdoors on a biggish screen.

9 - A dance tent. I cannot remember a single act I saw there now. Oh.

10 - The Manics being quite good.

11 - Food and drink being so expensive that I only had two pints the entire weekend.

I'd love to see a line up to see what memories it would trigger.
