Hullo!

There's a baby DVD I want to buy (I know, right?!) but it's only available in Region 1. I'm going to assume we are not region 1. Something says to me that we are region 2, but anyway...

Is there any way that it can be converted to region 2 and copied to either a blank DVD or just a file I can put somewhere to play?

I feel like Queen N00b even asking this, but it's something I really want and I am stuck.

Yup.

Is it difficult and do I need any special equipment to do it?

You might not need to anything.

I can't think of where it might be hosted. It's only half an hour long but I thought it might cover the basic mum, dad, drink, milk, food, sleep, cold...

I know someone will mock me now

Will it just play?

What will you be playing it on?

The Mac I think. It's wired to the tv. That's how I watched the Columbo box set anyway.

I don't know what else we have that plays DVDs. I don't have an actual DVD player.

So it could just as easily be a digital video file?

It's just occurred to me. If it's american, the signs will be American Sign Language. ASL is completely different to British Sign Language, as in, a foreign language.

But anyway...

Oh, I did try that vid I think but the sound keeps going through the second half if it's the one I watched (and I think it is as it has the surround that lions like a that'd)

I'm not too fussed about what language the signs are in, really. It's more to hopefully just allow Darwin to communicate to me when he is hungry/thirsty etc a little earlier than language skills would allow than when he can speak those needs. It wasn't to communicate with anyone but me. I did think of making up my own, but I do t know that I have the requisite concentration st the mo :D

I think that a lot of baby signing is based on Macaton (sp?) from what folks have told me.

My wife did a baby signing course with our first and she found it very useful.

You should look in your local area as I'm sure there'll be some classes you can go to. There definitely was around us.

Yes, I've heard that it can be really useful, which is why I am interested to look into it a but more. There aren't any classes that I can get to as I can't drive, so it rather cuts down my options for things like that.

That said, my friend when to a taster class in Lichfueld to introduce six month olds to the concept, and they were signing leaves, swings, breeds of dig at these babies... Not really what I'd think of as the essentials to trying to make babies happy. I was thinking more of 'milk' and 'food', maybe 'cuddle'!

To answer your original question (not sure if someone else has replied outside of the thread or not).

Yes we are region 2 - region 1 is America

Yes you can convert region 1 material to either a digital file or place it onto another DVD (if you really needed to) - plenty of software to do this

Even though its an 'obscure' disk , its probably available digitally online somewhere.
