Because I'm lazy, I'm looking for a nice PSP with all of the custom gubbins pre-loaded so I can play, er, homebrew and that on it.

Anybody want rid of one?

Buying a pre-cracked one off somebody might be your best bet at this time - I'm not sure if all the stores (import, local) have replaced the earlier Slims already or not, but I know that the PSP-3000 and the more recently produced Slims are reported to be uncrackable at this time.

Along similar lines, I am borrowing a launch Japanese PSP, it's on firmware version 3.73.

How can I make it be on custom firmware?

One word: Pandora.

You can either follow some no-doubt tedious hacking guide to turning your battery into a Pandora one, OR...

Get a ready-to-use Tool battery here (Fat) or here (Slim), or one of those battery-status changing devices here.

There's tons of different Pandora Installer programs too, so I'm sure googling for them will help you to decide which to go for.

Yes I can do it if you want. Probably looking about £80 for one + postage. May be a few minor marks on screen. And it's pink. Hmmm..

Pink doesn't sound too tempting - I'd like one in as close to new condition as poss as well.

It's not too much of a hardship to do it yourself, chum.
No offence to him, but RevStu did it and he's not exactly the most technical person in the world.

Oooh! Can you locate it sir? I think my main problem is getting a PSP 2000, because the 3000 apparently can't be fiddled? Or is that bollocks?

Seems as though all the stores are now selling the 3000.

No, that is correct. No-one has hacked the 3000 yet. The Slim'n'lite (2000) and the original (1000) are both Pandora hackable.

Do you know of anywhere still selling the 2000 new? I'd prefer a new one, you see.

Not off hand, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't still buy them. Have they vanished from shelves that fast?

I thought I read somewhere that the more-recently produced Slim'n'Lites had a different motherboard fitted in that couldn't be Pandorarized? Or is that bollocks?

A pandora battery isn't enough though, you need a magic memory card as well.

Bought a Slim'n'Lite PSP 2003 PB... Whatever that is. Brand new in GAME. The guy couldn't grasp the fact that I didn't want the 3000 and tried his hardest to sell me one.

Of course, the original models don't need the pandora trick at all, at least up to a certain firmware version. I flashed mine at the time using nothing but the stock gear that came with it. Buggered if I can remember how now, but I'm sure you could dig up the details without too much fuss.

If you're as far back as 2.00 you just need a piccy that'll cause a buffer overrun.

Chaps!

I've ordered a Datel Max Power Tool Battery and a blank 4GB memory stick. Can anyone help me turn that blank memory stick into the thing I need? I need it to downgrade my official firmware from 4.05 and install the custom firmware.

(Also posted on WoS, fact fans).

If you've posted on WoS and are a subscriber then there is a nice thread in the subscriber section that explains exactly how to do it and has all the files n stuff.

If your not then its do-ableand i can upload the files somewhere for you to grab - just post back here :-)

(They are also on plenty of torrent sites like Mininova)

Ahh , found your post on WoS , your problem there is that the domain stuff for WoS is stuffed at the moment (I've only read the first page of the magic new subscribers update because of it) , if your lucky and its back up by the time you get this message then fine - download the software from there.

If not - here is a set of files for it : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3BV4HL1Z

Its 15 meg in size.

** Disclaimer ** - I got a US PSP on day one so had firmware 1.5 and never updated it , so i had an easy way to run the custom firmware when it came out (since 1.5 would run any unsigned code if the folder had a nonstandard character in it like a % symbol - way to go Sony!)

When the pandora battery stuff came out i followed and downloaded the stuff because i was toying with the idea of getting a PSP slim but never did so this software is untested by me but the files tie in with Stuarts instructions so you should be able to use them fine.

OR if you'd prefer heres an alternative guide with its own download links : http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/610313

Jonarob - If you are still after a second hand one, a mate of mine is looking into selling his (UK PSP-1000, CFW'ed 5.00 m33-3) PSP. It's still in good condition, but I'm not sure what he's got to sell with it. Certainly quite a few original games and UMD movies, but not sure which ones. If you want me to ask him for a price, send me a PM.

Zaphod - you're a star, thankyou very much.

Mark - I've got one now, so no thanks! Ta for letting me know, though. I'll let you all know how I get on when my memory card shows up.

ALSO - how lame is it that the PSP doesn't come with either a USB cable or a memory stick now? I mean, what the fuck? Fortunately, the PS3 charger cable works. Had to order their stupid memory stick duo format, though. Bloody Sony.

Isn't 4GB a bit big for a stick you intend to make magical? I'm fine with a 512MB magic stick myself.

My first digicam came with a 2mb smartmedia card. I saved up for a 64mb upgrade. The bugger cost about £80!

That was the plan - but I might pick up a 512 one just for magic purposes.

Anyway - if I want to create a magic card with it, do I need anything other than the card connected to my PC and a bit of software?
