I'm enjoying the reports from the Covid enquiry about the Government's performance. Today's highlight is Boris' Trumpian moment when he 'asked scientists if hair dryer could kill Covid'.

And yesterday's revelations about Whatsapp messages from inside Downing St show just how clueless he was.

Secondly I can perfectly see Tory votes also wanting to burn their own party down and rebuild it from within. I'd hope that somehow the centre-right regains influence within the Tory party, with the quiet semi-sane vaguely competent types who left during the Boris era coming back, but for any party...

The Labour figure barely changes I know it's not going to be exactly 1-1, but it does bother me that in a general election those Conservatives might just make the effort to come out and vote. Bloody typical. I leave the country for one week and not only does Parliament decide that Boris Johnson is a liar but there's a highly important twist in the Archers . Britain: stop doing this to me. Could you go abroad again for a few days, just long enough for a snap general election to be called?

Starmer got the tone exactly right today. Johnson was even more dreadful than normal, just rattling through his standard repertoire regardless of the question.

The chant of "bye bye Boris" as he left after Javid's statement was quite charming, and the kind of thing he'll be seething about.
